Well, Seattle's oc isn't gonna be available anytime soon. Do hope Dennison is ready to be called "Da Coach (pt.2)"

I don't believe we are targeting anyone in the Ravens organization (maybe we should be!) so this is good news. Now if the 49ers would beat GB, that would also free up Clements. Again, I don't think we are looking at anyone there either.

I do think that Dennison will be free tomorrow. The only one I think we may have to wait on is Bevell. They definitely might beat Atlanta. If all four were freed up, how strange would that be that we were not looking at any candidates from the top four teams?

    Makes you wonder why not.
if you're watching the packers game, that last drive is the reason i want tom clements as our head coach. the innovative routes and use of the middle of the field, that's what we need.

For me it was a bitch. Mixed emotions I guess. I would have liked to have seen the Broncos win but I'm not devoted to them like I am the Bears so I could see the silver lining if they lost.

Then somebody should have been waving Rahim Moore deeper or somebody should have called a timeout and got them aligned right. You'd never see the Bears playing that shallow in a situation like that.

Moore should have been 5-7 yards deeper and made sure he kept any throw in front of him. They could easily give up yardage because a FG wasn't gonna beat 'em. That was some of the worst pass coverage I've ever seen.

I just don't see it. Great OC maybe but probably not quite ready for a HC spot yet. Plus a lot of what you see was put in by McCarthy and Philbin.

If Houston loses tomorrow which is pretty likely then I think all of Emery's top guys will be available for interviews and second interviews for those who make the final cut. Dennison hasn't had his first yet so look for that to happen early in the week if Houston loses.

Then look to see who Emery has back to a second interview and those guys are his top two or three. I think the Trestman thing may be more than a rumor. I don't think he's been hired or that would have been announced but I'd be willing to bet he's been told to stay loose for a second interview and that he's near or at the top of the list.

but what we need is a great OC as the HC. and i think a lot of what you see as mccarthy and philbin is actually clements, conversely.

Torrey Smith is a pretty fine wideout but I don't normally think of Baltimore as a quick hit offense or Flacco as a big play QB. Yet, he burned Denver deep twice and overthrew another surefire bomb TD as well. Sorry, but that was some terrible secondary play by the Broncs especially at the end of the game. Makes you appreciate what Conte, Wright, Jennings, and Peanut did this year. You just don't see the Bears get burned that bad deep very often. That was ridiculously poor defense on a few key plays.

Speaking of bad defense, the Packers are getting raped for 38 points and 500 yards through 3 quarters.

Nah, Clements wasn't even the OC until this year. McCarthy and Philbin designed that offense and it's the same one they've been running for a long time. Long before Clements became OC. Give him credit for helping to make Rodgers a great QB but that's Mike McCarthy's offense as much as the Bears defense was Lovie's.

I think he'll be a HC someday but I don't think he's ready yet and I don't think he's our guy as a HC. I would be very surprised if it was Clements when you have other OCs in Arians, McCoy, Trestman and Dennison who trump him as far as experience and track record go. Trestman has even been a HC in Canada as well as a very successful OC in SF before he went to Canada.

Overall Trestman just may be the best HC to fix both what's wrong with the offense and what's wrong with Cutler and he's usually coached teams who played a 4-3 defense as well. I think who ever comes in may need to agree to keep that defensive staff intact for a year just like Emery had to keep Lovie.

Some of the best coaches have been this old or older, and I noticed that Clements is only a few months younger than Arians. It doesn't bother me (the age thing).

One thing that is really important in whomever they pick, is that the new guy can build a great coaching staff. I don't see that aspect discussed by the "experts" but to me personally, I want a guy that can bring great sub-coaches to Chicago. Being a great HC is far more than being a sub coach. My point is that just because a guy is a decent QB coach for Cutler, or even has a few years as an OC - that doesn't automatically make him a great HC candidate.

I expect the guy who is finally picked to bring in great guys to do the day-to-day position and coordinator coaching.
I think one of the reasons why Emery is interviewing half the OCs in football is to see who they might bring in for their staff. That gives him an idea about other position coaches he might suggest to whoever he hires. I expect him to be heavily involved in the decisions to hire any position coaches or OCs and DCs.

All of the assistants and coordinators are still under contract. I believe before any of them get released Emery will have to be convinced that the guy who replaces him is a better coach or coordinator. I also wouldn't be surprised if the HC job comes with a caveat that he keep most or all of the defensive staff intact and work almost exclusively on rebuilding the offensive staff.

    Just sayin'.
