    I don't see Trestman being asked to be the next HC I think he will be asked to be the next OC. I also feel Bevell will be our next HC if it is these three. If it ends up being Bradley then I don't think Emery has the finally say in who the next HC will be.

    JJ -- That exact scenario was going through my mind which probably means it's a bad idea. Honestly all three of these guys are solid. I said a while ago that Bevell was impressive once you started looking at him. I don't think any of them would go for OC, although Trestman would be my pick. Would he step down from HC to OC even for the NFL Chicago Bears? And what would Bevell think of that anyway?

    But I sure do like that combo. I think it would be top notch. I just hope that we gain offensive capability and don't lose defensive capability because of it.

    If we could do that, get a real OL, we will make a mark in next years postseason. Whatever Emery does here will be fine with me.

    Darrell Bevell and Marc Trestman Believed To Be The Finalists For The Bears

    Darrell Bevell and Marc Trestman Believed To Be The Finalists For The Bears

    Monday night has certainly provided some clarity in the Bears’ search for their next head coach. Entering the day, the Bears had thirteen known candidates to replace Lovie Smith as head coach. As recently as this morning, the favorites for the position were believed to be Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, and Canadian Football League head coach Marc Trestman. Since then, two coaches have emerged as the final two candidates for the position.

    The clarity began with this tweet from Chris Mortenson of ESPN:
    Chris Mortensen

    @mortreport
    Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell is scheduled for a 2nd interview with the Bears on Tuesday. #NFL32

    Bevell is the dark-horse candidate that many believed would be a finalists for the position. Though, many speculated that Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan would be the dark horse candidate. Bevell certainly is an interesting name for the Bears. Bevell’s second season as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator concluded on Sunday with the Seahawks loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the divisional round of the playoffs. Bevell’s reputation has done a 180 degree turn this season as many Seahawks were highly critical of the offensive coordinator in the early portions of the season. Though as Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson continued to excel as the weeks passed, Bevell’s stock continued to rise.
    Shortly after news of Bevell’s second interview with the Bears was making the rounds on twitter, Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted that Trestman would join Bevell in receiving a second interview with the Bears at Halas Hall:
    Adam Schefter

    @AdamSchefter
    Bears will meet again with Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell and Montreal HC Marc Trestman, first 2 candidates to be identified as Bears finalists.

    14 Jan 13

    Ever since Jimmy Johnson jumped the gun last Friday by tweeting that Trestman would be named the head coach of the Bears, the belief has been that CFL head coach would be a finalist for the position. Trestman certainly is the most intriguing of all the candidates to interview for the Bears’ head coaching vacancy. Many have tried to discredit Trestman because of his connection to the Canadian Football League, but the belief is that the long-time NFL consultant was very impressive in his interview with Bears’ general manager Phil Emery.

    With it being known that Trestman and Bevell would be two finalists to receive second interviews with the Bears at Halas Hall, David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune indicated that they are the only finalists for the position:
    David Haugh @DavidHaugh
    According to one candidate who didn't get Bears job, he was told Emery will bring in 2 finalists to Halas Hall beginning tomorrow.

    14 Jan 13

    Despite there being every indicator prior to this evening that McCoy and Arians were favorites for the position, it would appear that they have been eliminated from the process. By the end of the week, there is a strong chance that either Bevell or Trestman will be introduced as the head coach of the Bears. Chances are even stronger that the new head coach of the Bears will be Trestman, or at least that is what Vaugh McClure of the Chicago Tribune tweeted.
    vaughn mcclure @vxmcclure23
    I'm told that Trestman is the heavy favorite for the job.

    14 Jan 13

    If Trestman is hired, the hire will certainly be criticized. But whether Trestman is indeed the next head coach of the Bears or if Bevell is the replacement to Smith, the truth of the matter is that we likely will not be able to gauge whether or not it was a good hire until after the 2013 season. Though, even then it may be too quick to judge. Nonetheless, all indications are the Bears will have a new head coach by Friday.

    No way is Emery interviewing Trestman for the OC job. Whomever he hires as HC will pick his own guy. It's possible the coach picks Trestman, but Emery isn't going to hire a coach and tell him "this guy is your offensive coordinator."

    I trust in Emery, but I'd really have liked to see Dennison as the new Bears HC.
    I don't have faith in Bevel as HC, nor do I think Trestman can lead us to another SB win he have been out of the game too long imo. (I've heard somewhere the Browns are very interested in him), so I'd go with Arians.

    I'm glad I'm not being Emery right now, but in Emery we trust.

    Some tidbits on Trestman for those who doubt:

    1981-1984 First coaching gig, for the Miami Hurricanes. In 83 named QB coach, coached Bernie Kosar as a Freshman who lead the 'Canes to their first National Championship. In '84, Kosar set Miami records with 3642 yards and a 62% completion rate (latter is still a Miami record).

    In 1985 he became the Minnesota Vikings RB coach, and the Vikes went from 27th (out of 28 teams) in Rushing to 16th under Trestman in 86.

    In 1987, was QB coach for the Buccs, who just drafted one Vinny Testeverde...he worked with him as a rookie QB

    In 1988-9, he became QB coach for the Browns, reuniting with his Miami QB, Bernie Kosar. First year, Browns finished 10-6, 9th in passing, made the playoffs. In 89, Trestman was promoted to OC, Kosar passed for 3,533 yards and 18 TDs, WR Webster Slaughter had a franchise record of 1,236 yards receiving, Browns made it to the AFC Championship Game.

    1990-91 returned to Minny as QB coach, where he coached Rich Gannon (he also worked with Monte Kiffin who was their DC at the time).

    Left football for 3 years after that.

    Returned in 95-96 as QB Coach and then OC for the 49ers, where he coached Steve Young (they just won the SB in 94). Even though the 49ers win their division both years, they were one and done in the playoffs both times to the same team....the Green Bay Packers. Just one more reason why he would want to beat them methinks. Then again...this is probably his one weak spot on his resume...being QB/OC coach for a team that JUST won a SB, then going one and done the next two years. Of course, he wasnt HC, he was only QB then OC..but still. First year he was there, 9ers led the league with 457 points scored, 644 Pass attempts and 4,779 yards.

    In 97 became the Lions QB coach, their QB threw for 3,500 yards and 19 TDs that year.

    1998-2000 was Cardinals OC/QB Coach. That year he coached another Rookie...one Jake Plummer. Threw for 3737 yards and 17 TDs, 59.2% completion. Cards made their first playoff game since 1982, and won their first playoff game in 51 years. (lost in the Divisional to Minny).

    2001-2003 Became the Raiders QBC then OC in 2002, the year the Raiders led the league in total offense and passing yards. He reunited with Rich Gannon who win the MVP that year, Raiders made it to the SB where they lost to the Buccs.

    2004 Became QB Coach and Assitant HC for the Dolphins, coaching AJ Feeley and Jay Fiedler.

    2005-2006 returned to college ranks, becoming OC for NC State.

    2008 Became HC of the Montreal Alouettes, who lost their Championship game in 2008, but won back to back championships 2009 and 2010, their QB also winning back to back MVPs.

    Trestman is one of the most highly respected QB coaches in the country. So much so, that QB prospects have trained with him before the draft:
    Brandon Weeden, Tim Tebow, Brock Osweiler, Jimmy Clausen, Jay Cutler, Jason Campbell

    So yeah...there is alot more to Trestman then simply being a CFL coach.
    I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

    All respect to him, but I still feel a bit insecure about him being our next HC. It will be nice if he can do wonder to Jay Cutler, and generally our offense, but what about the defensive side? Would he just be another version of Lovie that would ignore our defense? But if he can turn JC into the next Brady, Rodgers, you name it then I'd hire him. If we can hire him as a OC then I will be more than happy, with Dennison as HC. Dennison have shown that he can run an offense that is well balanced. He has no great QB to work with, I will take Cutler over Schaub any given day.

    Wouldn't this be sweet?
    HC=Dennison
    OC=Trestman
    DC=Marinelli
    ST=Toub

    But at the end of the day if it doesn't matter who the HC is for the Bears as long as he win SB's with us.

    yes, there is more. I start to like the idea of Trestman. The question is, can he only be a QB coach? Was he out of the NFL for too long? Why did he take a time out for 3 years? Could he do this again?

    What I want to know between Arians, Bevell & Trestman:
    They all know how to coach offense, can they adapt their gameplan during the game and more important - do they know Defense too?

    How did Montreals defense rank while he was there?

    I have no favorite to win it, will accept however it will be and give them the benefit of the doubt until they show me they suck ;-)
    As Fan, I'd go with the young up and comer in the hope he will be here for 20 years with 5+ SBs
