I tend to agree with soul's comments above. I think any of these candidates come with their own set of pluses, but each also have their own set of question marks. I think most of the question marks surrounding Trestman are relatively weak compared to those surrounding some of the other guys. We have all seen "the hot names" come and go each year and we've seen many of them fail. To me, a lot of these guys have that same aura about them. I think Arians has a good chance at being successful, but I think I like the idea of Trestman. He's kinda goofy lookin, but again, that's a pretty weak negative
.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.

If anyone is curious about Trestman, ESPN 1000 in Chicago is interviewing Steve Young about his time with Trestman at 10 AM central.

I agree with the poll results. I'd rather have Lovie Smith than sign awful Bevell. Russell Wilson made him look good. I hope Emery isn't falling for him, or we are screwed.

Soul,
If Trestman turns to be the guy (and it looks more and more likely), do you have any insight on who he might want as OC? Do you have any insight on what he might do with Bates? OC? Keep him as QB coach? Not keep at all? Thanks for your thoughts.

Brad Biggs on the Score said that Bates was practically gone.

Thanks, Benj. Posted my question then saw your thread where you answered it.
Im not surprised Toub is leaving, though disappointed. When he clearly was not given a real shot at the job (his interview was late and seemed like a "courtesy look only") and then was given permission to interview elsewhere, you knew the writing was on the wall. I guess DT told Emery he wanted to explore opportunities elsewhere and saw a HC as making his future with the Bears sort of a dead end for now. Maybe he's hoping to snag an OC job if HC doesn't pan out.
Bates I was a little more surprised at but probably a similar scenario. Wants to be an OC and that wasn't going to happen with a new HC already having someone in mind? At least Trestman has some personal familiarity with Cutler since he seems like the front runner right now.

I'm actually thinking the HC interview itself was a favor to Toub. Toub maybe wanted to move on anyway, and the HC interview gave him exposure and raised his profile for other teams.

What I said about a head coach coming in with a pre-ordained offensive coordinator and would we want a guy like that being head coach...
Your post would give me pause about Emery, but I think he knew he could (and was going to) drop Smith at some point. I don't think that would be the case here.
