Bring back Lovie Smith

I just saw this on the broadcast. Wish him a full and quick recovery.

He probably was leaning towards one guy all along, but wanted to be careful to interview other top people, just to confirm in his own mind, that he was picking the best one. I'm fine with that.
To tell you the truth, I'm just as concerned about who the 3 coordinators will be, and who the sub-coaches will be. As we saw with Lovie, the coordinators and position coaches can make-or-break your success.

Tough break for Lovie though. He seemed to be pursuing Buffalo pretty hard.

Yes, it cascades down. You need a quality GM that can pick talent including HC talent and then hold them responsible. Then you need a HC that can motivate his players to play like it's a playoff game every week, have them performing their best with a good game plan that is able to make gameday adjustments and outcoach the opposing coaches. They also need to have the knowledge and ability to recognize talent, coach up their players and hold them accountable and recognize when you need to move on.
You need the same qualities in the three coordinators. For each position coach, I think its important to really understand the positions, how they interact with other positions, how to make players better in that position and how to keep those players motivated.
So far, we only have one person in that whole process. Well, I would say that Toub, Marinelli and possibly some position coaches, but I discount all of them because until the new HC says they are staying, we really don't have a coaching staff.
The HC is a huge piece. I think you can succeed with a great HC and fair GM, but don't think the opposite is true.
Meh, could be that he has narrowed the field of "available" candidates, i.e. those he has been granted access to by their teams. He could be selecting a top two of those he has interviewed, and will still interview his top prospects in the playoff teams. Just speculation IMO.
Coach Smitty Love's introductory new conference with the media:
"Brad Biggs, I've told you and your useless band of flunkies numerous times before. We handle our affairs internally. I will tell you we are actively doing what we need to do to remain competitive.. and I am not Coach Smith. He was a great educator, but this is a new era. Smitty Love is our coach. Bottom line."
Biggs: "Numerous times before..? Well, can you tell us what kind of changes you plan to make to the offense and defense?"
"No. That's a matter between me and the general manager. We will make the adjustments needed and go from there. Ok?"

I'm BACK, Jack... or something..

I hope so. From ESPN's blurb, it doesn't sound serious. Nothing definitive but mentioned "dizziness" and a possible "viral inner ear infection". Also said Arians wanted to leave and go coach but the docs kept him in as a precaution. If the above is true, this isn't anything to worry about long term. I hope Indy loses today so he can potentially be the guy as early as next week.
