I hope he does stay. They are saying on ESPN 1000 that it is up to Rod whether he is going to stay or not. They stated that Emery made it a point to keep Marinelli on during the interview process. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I, for one, hope Rod stays. I don't think Lovie will get a position that would enable Rod to go with him. At least not this season. Keep the "D" in tact and fix the "O". We're good to go.

"isn't broke" indeed. The quant sites (specifically Football Outsiders) rate the Bears defense about top of the league. (imo, with much better metrics than the usual 'yards', 'scoring' etc.) This was done with what looked like average injury luck (Url hurt a lot, Peppers slightly limited, Safeties (or course) wiped out, others). I would take some serious convincing before I thought changing the D was a good idea. <fingers crossed> Hope Marinelli decides to give it a go </fingers crossed>.
I'm on board with the hire. But if Cutler doesn't show some kind of progression from his 4yrs of mediocrity here, he needs to go and get someone that can be coached. Cock tease.
I like the hire and I also like the fact that he's already brought 2 assistants with him and we'll be rid of this entire offensive coaching staff.
It's a very ballsy move by Phil Emery to hire Trestman and it's one that will likely make or break him as the Bears GM. The thing that excites me is that it's not the typical "safe" pick or defensive minded retread. If the staff is improved, the roster is tweaked and the players buy in...the Bears could have a very nice team next season.
Pretty meh either way for me here. Not impressed or angered, just in a wait-and-see mode. With guys like Young and Gannon gushing about him and others like Rice and the league not wanting him for 7 years, it's hard to get a true opinion of him until he takes this team on the field.
Yeah Soul, relax. WE know very little about Trestman, so we need all the info we can get, even if its a Jerry Rice crybaby article from 17 years ago. It still adds some insight on our new HC, and gives us something we can reference if (as Benji pointed out) Rice voices his opinion on Marc NOW.
As long as the article is factual and relevant to the topic (which Benji's article was on both counts), then its fair game and should be posted.
just wanted to add my 2 cents to the "positive" pile.
Happy & excited about the future of Bears football going forward.
Must admit to not knowing too much about Trestman before his namefirst came up this off season, as I dont follow CFL but the more I read about him the more I like what I read and think he will be a good mesh with the team and with Emery.
Either way, I'm really glad we didn't 'play it safe' with another uninspiring mediocre middle of the road hire. Emery is meticulous and he is ballsy, I like it. Swing for the fences guys, death or glory!
