Are you fucking kidding me? Holy **** this is some good shit.
No words to express really.. This is fucking crazy

my 2 cents:
Te'o is gay. Nothing wrong with being this and feeling this way. Being knows as gay person in public only works if you are an actor for over a decade. A sports person about to get drafted would get eaten alive and many would make jokes about him, GMs wouldn't want him on their team.

What a messed up story.
ND's reaction is what is even weirder. They could have easily said "this is a personal issue for one of our former players. We were duped just like America was." And left it at that. But no....they jump "all in" on supporting Te'o leaving no out if his story doesn't check out. Why? How do they benefit from that??? And there are obvious inconsistencies with the story and what Te'o has said publicly in the past.
My take...the kid did get duped initially. He either a) exagerated some of the details publicly (like meeting her) because he was embarrassed it was just an online relationship or b) found out at some point it was all a con but reveled in the attention so he perpetuated the story. Either way, he's not faultless in this. He obviously lied at some point about the extent of this "relationship".

I don't know... I think the German may be onto something.
Dudes don't do this sort of shit. Only love-lorn nerds and closet cases would do something like this.

you want to tell me that the star of the football team of this college can't get a different chick every day? That's why he had a internet relationship without Skype and seeing her tits :D

Here's some interesting hypotheses I've heard:
- Te'o honestly got duped and got the university to help out her situation by paying her bills. In most cases like this where there is a true honest dupe, the victim is taken for money. Well, if the university helped pay for some of this, then that's a clear violation and it's their motive to step in and participate as part of the coverup.
- I've also heard that Te'o was really a part of the con and the university found out, said nothing because they were trying to pay off Tuiasisopo (sp?) to take the fall, saying he duped Te'o the whole time, and all of that broke down.
- As mentioned before in this thread, he's really gay and that conflicts with his strong faith. He fabricated a girlfriend and took it took far.
Either way. Te'o is one of two things here:
1. A con artist
2. Incredibly dumb.

I think the gay thing is plausible, but maybe a slight twist could also be true.
The Tuiasosopo dude did dupe him, because HE is gay. Te'o finds out, but is too embarrassed that he cybered w/ a dude, so perpetuates the lie by coming up w/ "the death". Later, Te'o - filled w/ shame, puts on red lipstick while marking off names of his "people to kill" list. Thankfully Billy Madison apologizes to Te'o before Te'o gets to him on the list.

German, this is exactly what Mrs. 4DaBERS said this morning. I hadn't even thought of that, but it makes sense. The imaginary girl gives him cover while attending ND as to why he never dates. It could very well be the case. Or this guy is a very religious (and therefore, potentially naive) guy that got punked in a very crappy way. If that's the case, then I feel bad for him. We should all keep in mind that this kid is only 22 years old. It's not like he's a 35 year old man with years of experience dealing with women. Just because he's a stud athlete does not make him "worldly" with the ladies and given his religious beliefs, his experiences could be far less than you would expect and a far more trusting person that is easier to fool.
Or
He's played this whole thing up as a part of the story, in which case, is is a very strange turd.
Regardless, the press heavier on this than they were Benghazi, so I expect the truth will surface soon. Someone will crack.

After I wrote my post I started thinking about this more. The ND press conference just seemed so...I don't know...unnecessary if the facts were as they purported. Your theories jive with what I was thinking. They are doubling down on this story because they, indeed, are NOT innocent in this. I was thinking that they perpetuated the story to get more attention for their guy to help his Heisman candidacy. Maybe it goes deeper and more insidious than that (NCAA rule violations, fraud for charity fund raising etc).
In any event, you can be certain that objective journalists are digging and more will come out. Because right now, none of it adds up the way ND and T'eo is telling it.

What reaction does the NFL have to the girlfriend hoax and Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o? Here is what one scout said:
“He’s going to have to explain this about 32 (darn) times now, in an interview room or whatever,” the scout said. “He’s going to have to explain the whole thing and the agent is going to have to prep him on it. He’s going to have to have some kind of story that is the same with everybody. Or there is going to be even more questions. Is this stable? Did he get screwed? You’ve got to give the kid the benefit of the doubt but you have to research this thing and find every single angle you can. He’ll get absolutely punished more than Cam Newton, question-wise with everybody asking about it. He is going to get drilled on it. Now, you’re going to see what kind of character the kid has because there are teams that talk. Guys will talk and they will say, ‘What did he say to you guys?’ Is it constant? Is it the same story? Does it change at all? You have to question the honesty. Hopefully, the kid has some proof. Some emails or something. Some text messages. A picture. Records of it. It isn’t going to be good if this is fictitious on his part because you’re like, ‘Wait a minute, what’s going on here?’ It’s strange but is this better to be lying about a third drug test or a fourth drug test? What’s worse? You have to ask yourself what the risk/reward is with this. What is going on? I can’t tell you. There are security guys with every team that are going to dig into this. Hopefully, for the kid’s sake … I hope he has some proof.”
