We upgraded our OL big time with Vollmer and Cooper, now it's time to get the MLB of the future. Both are worth being taken that high.

Good read German. My question is with cooper. I think he is a tier one IOL, but are you saying you would rather have him over Warmack, and jones? Or are you assuming they will be gone?

I like the qb pick in 4 I also think it will happen like that. Trestman will want a fresh new project, and it gives us security for now and the future..

Cooper over Jones and Warmack will be gone. If Warmack is available, we take him over Cooper. Warmack > Cooper > Jones



I know many here like Jones, but Cooper is ranked ahead of him by EVERY Football person in the media (talking about guys with knowledge). Haven't seen much of Cooper and more of Jones, but I'd take Cooper too.

For sure I havent seen Cooper play much. I do like the fact that he played in a big confrence ACC. What I do like about Jones is his versatility, that being said I would still be thrilled with Cooper. I'm sure we will get a better idea via combine. Also German, I've been wondering this the more I read about Jone's draft stock possibly plumiting due to the fact that he plays center primarly, and that he will most likely miss the combine and will for sure miss the senior bowl. What if we go Cooper and Jones is still there in round 2? Do you pass on Minter or do you pass on Jones if they were both avail?

And I totally agree, I wish windy would come back. He was a great source of information at this time of year.

University of North Carolina offensive guard Jonathan Cooper is a very reliable interior presence with few shortcomings to his game. His unique blend of athleticism and strength have pushed him into consideration for a first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Cooper has been a four-year starter at left guard for the Tar Heels. Only missed a handful of games in his career. Cooper is a very proficient pass blocker and uses his hands extremely well. Although he only has average height and size, he can hold his own against bigger or stronger tackles. He will likely need to continue adding power to his game as he transitions into the NFL.
He possesses above-average quickness and gets into position immediately. Aforementioned size limits his ability to truly dominate inside, but he plays with a chip on his shoulder and refuses to be pushed around. He smoothly pulls out into open space and shows nice balance moving around the trenches.
At the next level, he'll need to adapt his ability to adjust to more complicated defensive schemes. Cooper will be asked to be more mindful of audibles, stunts, twists, etc. He projects as a late first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

If we get Vollmer as FA and Cooper with our 1st AND BU will be back, I think I'd take Jones with the 2nd and go ILB with the 4th.

As I'm sure most of you know, I'm a huge Tarheels football fan so I can break down Cooper a bit. Athletic as hell -- he pulls, traps, seals and gets to the second level like no other in this class. His feet are simply top notch. Strength can certainly use improvement as his drive block lacks the same power as Chance or my personal favorite, Dallas Thomas, but it is not a weakness for his game after putting on 15ish pounds to get to over a 305 play weight. His hand punch is back after shoulder surgery, but placement gets a little lazy at times leading to penalties, but that is all about coaching him up. If he shows up and had the 33+" arms and such, he is no doubt a first round G and has a higher ceiling than Chance because of superior athleticism.

I didn't know that you're a Tar Heels fan. I've been reading some buzz about Cooper for a while now, but always in the mid 20s in mocks (but who really cares about them right now since we're 3 months away from the Draft?). I wouldn't mind picking up an interior O-line prospect in the first this year, but if all the big names are there (Jones, Warmack, Thomas, Cooper), do we try to trade back? Sure, you can say that it's unlikely that they all fall that far, but that's what they said about Decastro last year. Perhaps I'm just being too greedy.

Dream scenario would be being able to trade down a little, still get one of these guys we want, and snag an extra 3rd round pick in the process. Anything that makes this more possible (teams reaching desperately for shit QBs, over drafting certain players from Notre Dame named T'eo & Eifert, etc) will make me smile.

You never know remember last year how we would all say "well decastro is my number one but no way he's there"

And I fully expect someone to overdraft on T'eo IMO he should go after olgetree and minter maybe even the guy from Rutgers
