I feel more nervous now than I did before the press conference...
a few things really rattled me... one... he referred to his "beloved Vikings" ... go ahead and dissect my concerns all you want... why the hell would you say that when accepting the HC job of the Bears?
The whole intro from Emery was straight up retarded... talking about similar tastes in TV shows? Shut up and talk football.
I wasn't too sold on Emery's endorsement... a whole lot of "Don't doubt him!" and "don't underestimate him!" speak... makes you feel like he is trying to sell you something. He shouldn't be trying to sell us anything. His abilities and experience should speak for itself.
Finally... it didn't sound like he knew much about the players on the team... for a guy who brags about dissecting all three phases of a team the week before he plays them, when they asked him about Forte's future he was like "Uh, I dunno... we'll see... I guess... I mean, I haven't seen him yet..." He doesn't sound that confident.
I am starting to worry that we went with the more "budget friendly" option. Especially when you consider what they turned down for him and Kromer... Arians/Wiz/Grimm... right?
And Marinelli is walkin... we've scrapped everything now... I thought we were hoping to keep the D in tact... this is a complete reset.
I'm worried. But I hope I'm wrong. I'm going to try and stay optimistic.

damn, that was driving me nuts... haha
Also, if you close your eyes and listen to him... you can imagine Jeff Goldblum accepting the HC position.

I think you're reading too much into it, Atomic. His speech was nervous - rocking back and forth and all, but in Q&A he settled down and I thought gave good answers. As far as the vikings? well, he was just trying to show he understands the NFL and that it's not really all that different from the CFL, and reminding everybody where his roots are.
As far as not knowing th eplayers, well, I'm sure they watched some tape and he knows very well who's who and what they are capable of and not capable of. But he's not going to throw anybody under the bus until he's talked to them. (I was surprised there was so much discussion regarding Cutty. I thought the media went overboard there.)
All in all, I think the guy has some brain power, and that will be refreshing compared to the deer in the headlights disorganized confusion on the sidelines or compared to the dumbness of the Jar-head Wanny years.

Not sure what's wrong with showing a little affection for a past employer. I think Trestman said plenty about being excited to work for the Bears. Mentioned their history and traditions.

Most of the lead up was about the hiring process and why Trestman was chosen. A couple brief (somewhat comedic) comments about similar television viewing or birthdays didn't seem like a big deal.

Like everything Emery does, I thought he was very detailed in his thought process during the hiring process. I didn't feel like any of the above quoted comments came across as selling anything. More, "be patient and I think you'll like what you see".

It wouldn't be prudent for Trestman to say too much about the current players until he's had a chance to actually meet them, evaluate them and then make informed decisions. You can't use your first press conference as a time to hire/fire/extend guys without any firsthand experience with them.
I am starting to worry that we went with the more "budget friendly" option. Especially when you consider what they turned down for him and Kromer... Arians/Wiz/Grimm... right?
I don't know that it's budget friendly. Arians is still unhired which means none of the other teams have wanted him either which means he probably can't ask too high a price for his services.
And Marinelli is walkin... we've scrapped everything now... I thought we were hoping to keep the D in tact... this is a complete reset.
If Marinelli does walk, it sounds like Jon Hoke might get the DC spot which would help keep things intact.
I'm worried. But I hope I'm wrong. I'm going to try and stay optimistic.
I really enjoyed the presser and am excited to see what he can do with this team.

I was very impressed. The guy is passionate and has some fire. Regarding the Vikings comment, understand that this guy learned some of his coaching skills from two Hall of Fame coaches, one was Bud Grant the Hall of Fame coach from the Vikings. The other was Bill Walsh the Hall of Fame coach from the San Francisco 49ers. So these guys are a part of who he is as a coach.
This was a breath of fresh air from the wooden indian. This guy wasn't crapping on us with the same one liners of "we like our chances" and "the sun will come up tomorrow" and "there's a lot of football left to play" -- this guy actually KNOWS something about coaching champions. I didn't have to worry that he was going to fall asleep during the interview. Imagine, a coach smart enough to call his own plays, all the way to multiple championships? Bet he can get a play into Cutler without having to run out of time and call time outs. Might even be smart enough to throw that funny red flag thing in his pocket, at the right time.
I'm "all in" on this guy being our Chicago Bears head coach. Can't wait to watch him coach on the sideline.
Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Marinelli confirmed leaving was a kick in the shorts. Don't know why he felt he had to leave. If he was so loyal to Lovie, he should have waited until Lovie became a HC again and then left. He had been a HC before, maybe he was upset he never got an interview. Not sure.
Well, all we can do is take this as an opportunity to get more aggressive on the D. Chicago D has always been great, but I think we can play even more aggressive. I like aggressive, attacking defenses like we had when Rivera was here. If we can keep the traits we have and add that, I think we are talking close to the 85 defense. Not sure who can make that happen other than Rivers, but I'm sure he's not the only one.

I for one am not nervous of a new direction. It might blow but Im hoping for the best. The reason Im not worried about a full overhaul is cause this team hasnt done anything to make me feel good about the direction they are going in since 2006. This should have happened three years ago. Im ready for a new direction even on defense even if it means we stink for a year. Bring on the new team the old one is stale

Accountability ... from coaching staff and their prep during the week to the individuals on the field on Sunday.
He will be hands on with the QB, OC, QB coach during the week in all their meetings.
He'll be calling the plays, but obviously Cutty has the 'best seat in the house' before the snap. So sounds like an audible system will be in place.
A few guys from his staff in Montreal will be coming done. Depends on what types of opportunities they have in the CFL and elsewhere.
My side note... Nice to hear a guy speak with various tones to stress his points.
Funny side note... he knew Roberto Garza bought his book at 2 am the day he was hired. (Heard him/his wife mail out all orders.)
Great points.
He's a smart guy with the fire and intelligence to win championships. I also get the impression that the "Country Club Camp Lovie" atmosphere, is gone. These guys are going to be pushed hard every day of practice. He made that priceless comment that every practice will be like we're preparing for the Super Bowl. Man, I love that mentality.
Yes, this is going to be the polar opposite from Lovie. I love it. Let's start winning some championships here. I'm tired of having one lone Lombardi Trophy from over a quarter century ago. It's probably in some closet at Halas Hall collecting dust with cob webs all over it. Lovie, probably didn't even know what it was.
I'm glad "Mr Meciocrity" is gone. I'm glad Trestman is here. Those that are butt hurt over Lovie getting fired need to get over it and move on.
Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.
