What Happens When TheBaschnagelnator Meets Baschnagel?
Answer: The universe shakes.
So, I stumbled across some pictures of the man himself. He was at the opening of a sports card shop last year in Oak Lawn. Might I add that Mr. Baschnagel (I don't want to disrespect by using his first name) is fully aware of his cyborg internet counterpart. He laughed hard over it and thought that was really cool. After meeting him at the autograph table, he spotted me and my wife in a different part of the store and approached us. He was floored that I was wearing a Baschnagel jersey. I guess there aren't many floating around (there should be). I was holding a coffee earlier, which covered a part of the "8" on my jersey, so he assumed it was just a Payton jersey. He talked with us for a solid 10 minutes. He mentioned how he works for the Bears. He inspects the players before games to make sure they are wearing their uniforms according to league code (like socks pulled up, correct shoes, etc.) He said he had to fine Earl Bennett for his shoes last year. He also mentioned how he was on IR in 1985, then released by Ditka before the 1986 season. Too bad he didn't play in '85, but he WAS technically on the roster - plus, he was a Bear during some pretty crappy seasons, so he deserved one in my book.
Then he asked me if I'd like to hold his SB ring - and then he WALKED AWAY for a couple minutes. He smiled and told an employee that I was wearing a Baschnagel jersey, so he trusted me. Glad I found the pictures; the dude is a class act. Had a great time chatting with #84.

Yeah it is. I was told the week before by my wife that some Bears would be appearing at this grand opening, in Oak Lawn. I looked at the list, and I said, "We're going." I'm not praising myself, but him seeing his own jersey on a random fan coming to meet him REALLY left an impression on him. You just don't see that. I was honored that he interrupted my wife and I to talk to us.
Btw, Jim Morrissey was there, too. He was looking at cards in the glass case to the right of us; he turned to look at my wife and I, and he did a double take (because of the shirt). Looked at me like I was on crack..haha. Morrissey is not built like a football player. He looks like he belongs in basketball.

Great story made all the more interesting since Oak Lawn is where I grew up.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I thought it was cool because I didn't have to travel out far, myself. I grew up in Bridgeview and Hickory Hills. Even now, I'm just a couple towns over in the Midlothian area. The card shop is on 95th street, at 52nd Avenue (by that train station)
The wife wants to move to South Carolina after I finish school (I'm fighting that one). Last summer, we visited her aunt and uncle out there. They have no MLB team - and they have to "borrow" the Panthers, Hurricanes, and *gasp* Bobcats from a completely different state. All they worry about out there is the Clemson Tigers. I asked her uncle what it feels like to live in "sports purgatory." He replied that all people cared about all year 'round was Clemson.
I want to study the man's brain post-mortem to see how those people get by as sports fans, with so little to claim as theirs.
Alot of you guys that have never experienced a place like South Carolina would feel extreme culture shock. And their sports AM radio shows are the drizzling turds.

What? Brian is an awesome name. My parents thought so when they named me that, and Urlacher agrees. So does Mr. Piccolo's spirit.

Haha... I didn't mean it that way, brother. More along the lines of not using your mother's first name when speaking to her kind-of-thing. Or something.

Oh? What part? I'm assuming somewhere upstate because of the Clemson fans. If you make it into Columbia there quite a few Bear fans (more Packers sadly though) around. When I lived there I would to go one of my favorite local restaurants every Sunday to watch the game with them and a good 20+ would show up regularly. I guess it was the de facto Bears hang out in the area. But ya, Clemson and USC pretty much dominate with pro sports fans being divided evenly. It's not all bad though. You'll like the weather at least.

I wanna say...Greenville. I am a fan of the weather there, yes. I guess when it comes to sports, someone from Chicago is just so over-sensitized with the options they have. There isn't one pro, college, or any other league that doesn't have a Chicago team. Heck, we have two for baseball. Things are much more relaxed there, though. So, I guess it fits with the culture. If I move there, I'd need electroshock therapy and a lobotomy to adapt - sportswise lol.
That is cool that there are some Bears fans, there. Possibly transplanted from here at one point, maybe? And I initially thought "Trojans" when you said USC and laughed because that would've been REALLY random. But my brain caught up and corrected me
