Agreed! I'm not sure if this hire was in the plans or perhaps just a filler role, Bates should have stayed/kept, but we'll all see what happens, hoping for the best!

With what Trestman said during his presser yesterday on how he plans to work daily with Cutty, the OC and QB Coach... this might be nothing more than the good cop/friend figure for Cutty to vent too since Trestman might be reworking his whole game.
Plus he can share stories on how Tebow turned water into Gatorade and how he parted the locker room.

Sanchez looked fantastic last year! I am glad we were able to steal his QB coach.

I think some of you are over-thinking this one. Trestman will be working with the QBs closely. Cavanaugh used to be a west coast guy, probably versed in the offense.
Also, you can't blame a coach for a player that's garbage to begin with, and that's what Sanchez was. Anyone who thought otherwise about him when he got drafted simply bought into the hype. You could see the guy couldn't make all the NFL throws and he was surrounded by loads of talent at USC... just like Matt Leinert.

I don't know how many people watched Sanchez when he was at USC, but to say that Lienart was better is an understatement. I have no reason why Sanchez was taken so high and there had to be some good coaching in order for Sanchez to perform like he did when the Jets were in the playoffs.
