How much does a RB coach really need to do? How much actual coaching do guys like Forte and Bush need. Could anyone say whether or not Tim Spencer did a good or a bad job? If there are holes RBs gain yardage and if not oh well.

Does anyone even remember who the Bears RB coach was when Payton was playing and rushing into the HOF? It was Johnny Roland who was a pretty fair back in his day himself but would it have made a whole lot of difference if it had been some schmoe Ditka brought with him from Dallas.

Geez, there's a whole lot of fretting going on over this offensive staff when just about anyone might be better than what we had. I don't think our RBs need a whole lot of help and we got NO former line coach and those guys DO need a lot of help.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

True. What is in the back of my mind is that we may be seeing what type of people Trestman is hiring. He said that he was going to run everythiing past Emery, but these minor guys, he may be doing on his own. I don't know. Everything Emery has done to date seems to have lots of reasoning behind it and they have been good moves (including Trestman, IMO). But these last two just feel different to me. Has me a little worried. Not everyone on staff is going to be the best available, but man this is a big drop from best available.

You it's not uncommon for a player that sucks balls in one team move to another team and be succesfull this can pretty much be the case with coaches and hope it's the deal we got here.
Despite that I don't know much about the Cowgirls but do they even have a run game?
In Emery we trust untill proven otherwise.

Soul, I don't agree on that. I really think that coach needs to be able to make people better at his coaching position, else just save the money. And besides, Bush and Forte are not the only backs. Someone has to be able to take new guys and coach them up. Even Bush and Forte could benefit from good coaching. Every one of us no matter how good we are at what we do could benefit from goos advice and coaching. If that is not there you do not grow and start to stagnate. Not mention that the incoming pipeline grows cold.

I do think these are important positions. I think that was a big part of why we never excelled before. I don't like to see the pattern repeated Soul. I may be wrong, but that's my take.

Well, I am not on an NFL team, but something in my brain tells me that they don't just hire these people for no reason at all to fill some position that doesn't matter. I have a gut feeling that these coaches do more than you think they do.

I have to laugh tho... cuz its kind of typical when listening to average Bears fans... haha...

Bears fan: "OMG, Daryl Drake SUCKS! We can't develop a single freakin' WR! We need a better WR coach! He's killing this team! Yadda yadda yadda..."

Same Bears fan, different argument: "Uh, honestly, how much do you think a RB coach really does? You can eaither be a RB or you can't. You just hit the holes and go."

I'm a "chicken little" because I feel like if you are going to rebuild a coaching staff from scratch, you should hire the best possible candidates? Fine. Then call me a chicken little. haha

Just make sure I have the NFL ticket in my coop.

Fine... maybe you and Soulman feel that these coaches are just there to look good and carry a position dedicated clipboard around for Trestman, or whatever... but I feel like you might be in the minority on this one. Make no mistake, these position coaches matter. I think the most arrogant of players would say they matter. Let me see if I can think of an example of an arrogant QB... oh, Jay Cutler! If position coaches didn't matter, do you think Jeremy Bates would have ended up in Chicago? I just feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I hear someone say that they don't matter after all the flack the position coaches have recieved over the last several years... in particular, the Offensive Line coach, the WR coach, the TE coach... lol

I'm not dissing anyone here at all. I think we've all been accustomed to that warm feeling of "routine" with Angelo, Lovie & the constant mediocrity year after year.

But finally, we didn't like these 3rd place finishes in the NFC-N, so a lot of us wanted "change" to something better.

Then the Bears actually did fire Angelo and Lovie, and reality has set in. It's a little scary. It's like we expect everything to be perfect (like we need Belichick to be hired as our QB coach, or we're doomed to a fate worse than death ).

But this is the cost of achieving a great team. We could have stayed with Angelo/Lovie and had 3rd place finishes like the last few years (feeling those warm fuzzies knowing we were bottom feeders with Detroit in the NFC-N).

    or,

We could grow a pair and roll the dice on a better future. Yep, it's a dice roll. But I'd sure like this, over being a bottom feeder. If it doesn't work out, I'll at least feel good that we tried. Frankly, to quote the late-great Lovie Smith, "I like our chances"

Sorry 99, when you hire people, hire people that will make a difference... people that will make you better. You and I both had issues with the staff under Lovie not being able to develop anyone. About being tired of mediocrity. How do you see these two hires being different? Now, I can accept the "just give the guys a chance" argument. And I plan to. But to say someone is being chicken little when two guys were hired that have regressed their positions and a concern i voiced about that is just unfair.

Doesn't matter that you don't agree. I see it as a concern. Will it be? I hope not, I think position coaches are extremely important. I saw the effects of lousy position coaches here already and I was hoping this was going to be different. I am not being a downer. I am still very optimistic but I don't like or understand these last two hires and I'm just saying so.
