Some Wiki stuff on him...
In 2009 Tucker was hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the defensive coordinator. In the 2011 season head coach Jack Del Rio put Tucker in charge of defensive play-calling, and the team quickly became the fourth highest rated in the NFL. On November 29, 2011, Tucker was named Jacksonville's interim head coach following the firing of Del Rio.
He ran the team for their final five games and was in consideration for the job full time until Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey was named head coach on January 10, 2012. Tucker got his first victory as a head coach in week 14, a 41-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He went 2-3 as interim head coach. On January 12, 2012 he informed the media he would return to his position as defensive coordinator for the Jaguars.
On January 13, 2012 it was announced that Tucker would also be the assistant head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. On January 18, 2013 Tucker was named defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.

And Jax was 10th in 2009 when he started as DC there, and 5th the next year. Before Jax, he was DC in Cleveland in 2008, Browns were 7th.
So brushing off his coaching career because of Jax finished defensively this year is not entirely accurate.

With Tucker, we're staying with the 4-3. No worries.

3-4 is overrated anyway, just look at Green Bay.

Three of the four remaining teams run it as their base. Coincidentally, all three also run hybrid schemes utilizing both 4-3 and 3-4 packages. Having said all that, I do very much like the 4-3 as a base, I prefer it and think it is pound-for-pound the most balanced D attack out there. However, I see the things Mike Zimmer has done with an fringe-talented D and the wave of influence his hybrid has had league-wide, and I know that I want that for us as we phase out our aging talent.

Yes so would all of you who want to whine about this hire please step through the door directly to your left. That's the crying room.
Some of you need to do some homework on these guys yourselves and start looking past the tips of your noses and crying out for popular names who may NOT be what we need.
Singletary is a LB/Asst HC in Minny and unless the let him go we can't hire him as just a LB coach because it just a lateral move. Beyond that our LBs play pass coverage well and Singletary was a lousy pass defender when he played so what makes anyone think he's the right guy to coach them anyway?
Let's just have a little trust in the fact that Emery has proven that he knows what he's doing and just let him do it.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Not a bad move at all. Remember while in JAX this past year he had zero talent.

I agree 100% with this ^
But I understand that people ask for change - and then crap themselves when they get it. It's human nature.
A lot of people, myself included, wanted the Bears to make changes & take a shot at greatness. We were tired of mediocrity. We were tired of being 3rd place in the NFC-N and bottom-feeders with Detroit. We were tired of not going to the playoffs, year after year.
But for the Bears to take that step, we had to change.
It is taking a big chance. Lovie and Jerry Angelo could have given us a mediocre product for years to come. We could have been comfortable with the status quo, and our bottom-feeding team. But yes, it does take some balls to do what the Bears have done here. Fired a GM. Fired the head coach. All 3 team coordinators are gone now. Most of the sub coaches are gone now.
Fans are running scared right now. I think they would crap themselves no matter WHO the Bears bring in. It's like they expect the Bears to bring in Belichick as a position coach. Obviously, that isn't going to happen. It's not going to be a perfect and easy ride here. But if you want to take a shot at greatness, then you also have to accept change and yes, take some chances.
Bears fans are the greatest fans on earth. They've put up with a lot of mediocre and also some downright crap teams spanning so many years. They deserve better. I believe they're going to get a great team now, but they need to "keep the faith" and not lose their nerve.
It's going to be a GREAT time to be a Bears fan again.
Go Bears!
