But I understand that people ask for change - and then crap themselves when they get it. It's human nature.

A lot of people, myself included, wanted the Bears to make changes & take a shot at greatness. We were tired of mediocrity. We were tired of being 3rd place in the NFC-N and bottom-feeders with Detroit. We were tired of not going to the playoffs, year after year.

But for the Bears to take that step, we had to change.

It is taking a big chance. Lovie and Jerry Angelo could have given us a mediocre product for years to come. We could have been comfortable with the status quo, and our bottom-feeding team. But yes, it does take some balls to do what the Bears have done here. Fired a GM. Fired the head coach. All 3 team coordinators are gone now. Most of the sub coaches are gone now.

Fans are running scared right now. I think they would crap themselves no matter WHO the Bears bring in. It's like they expect the Bears to bring in Belichick as a position coach. Obviously, that isn't going to happen. It's not going to be a perfect and easy ride here. But if you want to take a shot at greatness, then you also have to accept change and yes, take some chances.

Bears fans are the greatest fans on earth. They've put up with a lot of mediocre and also some downright crap teams spanning so many years. They deserve better. I believe they're going to get a great team now, but they need to "keep the faith" and not lose their nerve.

It's going to be a GREAT time to be a Bears fan again.

    Go Bears!
I guess that maybe it's just me but I haven't seen anything BUT good in the general direction of this organization ever since George McCaskey became the head of ownership and Angelo was fired and Emery hired.

Every step that they've made has been in the direction of getting this team back to the top. They hired a good talent evaluator as a a GM and he's also a great communicator who tells you exactly what he's gonna do and then goes out and does it.

The team spends top dollar on talent when necessary. The idea that the Bears are cheapskates is a long gone rep and ill deserved today. They ate Angelo's contract a year ago and they're eating Lovie's and the ones for his staff at least the tune of what they don't make IF they're hired elsewhere. Emery spent big money on top offensive talent last year then watched a rookie OC do zip with it and his HC do nothing to intercede. So they're both gone now.

Marc Trestman is a guy very much like Emery who is gonna tell you what he plans to do and then go out and do it. He may have wanted this job but he sure as hell didn't NEED it. Montreal would probably have kept him forever so we didn't hire second best. He's been a lot of teams lists and if there was ever a guy who could come in and turn that offense around quickly he's one of those guys.

Unlike Martz he's not running a system that 10 years past it's glory days and unlike Tice he doesn't need to quickly invent one he never had. I think what's shaking people up is that there not used to seeing the Bears ownership, front office or HC acting this proactively and moving at this speed. They're miles ahead of us and if we're lucky they'll also end up miles ahead of the competition. This can all be done very quickly if you have the right people. Look at what Harbaugh has done in SF. Well we just got ourselves a guy far more like that than Lovie Smith.

Lovie was laid back and laconic and everything around him and the team moved in a very plodding manner. Whoops. Those days are gone. Some of you guys can't keep up with these hires because you're used to the old days when it took forever to hire an OC because half the guys we were interested in turned us down. Well that's not happening anymore because qualified coaches want to come to work here now and Lovie's Texas Mob is gone.

Kromer is a top notch line coach and he'll have his hands full straightening our that mess but I believe it will get done. Tucker is a good DC with enough experience running a 4-3 Cover-2 defense that the transition should be as seamless as possible. Were there higher profile guys? Maybe but do they run a defense that fits our personnel now? We may end up sliding in another direction but the key word here is sliding. It can't be done in one year when the offense is that thing that needs the most attention.

If you trust Emery then you have to trust his choice of Trestman and his belief that he'll get the job done that needs doing. I'm just not gonna fret about who they hire or what personnel decisions they make until I see what happens on the field and that we won't know for a year. All I know is that we're no longer stuck in that same old rut we've been in and that I like the direction these changes are taking us in. Now it's all a matter of sitting back and watching it unfold and see what the results are.

I don't really care what we run a 3-4 or 4-3 we have damn good players on D. The only thing I ask is we never see the prevent Eefense again unless we are up by more the 21 with 2 minutes to go in the game.

I look past the numbers when it comes to coaches. I see alot of fire and passionate people about the game emery has hired. This is crucial in an emotional game like football. No more wooden Indians on the sidelines. Besides emery has not done anything for me to be distrusting so for now I'm on board with whoever he hires. He obviously saw talent in Marshall and pulled the trigger dispite a pending legal issue. He turned out not only monster numbers but a real leader as well.

I hate to be so damn positive around here but I think this is another good hire. We can continue running the same defense if after evaluating the players it helps the team win. If not we can mix in some 3-4 or change completely. Changing things up on the defensive side can keep opposing offenses off balance, just like mixing things up on offense keeps defenses off balance. Trestman said he doesn't even know what offense he will run until he evaluates all the players, then he will adapt his offense & play to the strengths of the players. He & his staff will do the same on defense. How many times have we heard Urlacher, Briggs or Lovie say this is what we run or this is what we do(Cover 2)? We ran it as good or better than any team for the last 8 years but the better QBs & coaches in this league know how to beat it & if they don't turn it over we really struggle. I look forward to a defense that is a little less predictable each week.

To be honest I get a little more pumped with each hire because every hire has experience with excellence in some form or another IMHO. Trestman is doing exactly what he said he would & I can't wait to see what he, Emery & Co do next. FA starts March 12th & I can't wait!

Jim, I feel the exact same way. You can see that Trestman focuses on maximizing the use of talent by being flexible. I believe we hurt ourselves in years past by trying to make players fit the scheme, when sometimes they simply couldn't perform well, when used this way. It was trying to fit the square peg into the round hole.

I also like the wide array of experience we're seeing in the coaching staff that's being assembled. I think it is VERY impressive. Cumulatively, these guys have a solid background of experience. I can't wait for training camp this year. I want to watch these new coaches work with our guys. I'll bet the "Camp Lovie" country-club training camp will be gone
    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

With his versitity, is it possible we run a base 4-3 with a 3-4 mix? It would be easy to shift to confuse offenses, as long as Shea is in we can drop him back and shift the front during cadience....

I agree 99. Under Lovie we have always been limited in the draft because only certain players fit our scheme. Emery said he is going to draft the BPA & Trestman will adjust his system to the players strengths. Maybe next season "The Hester Package" will actually be a package that plays to his strengths & works. LOL
