From what clippings I've been seeing on this guy he does a very nice job with the talent he is given. Also he seems to make adjustments and has a new wrinkle or 2 when teams play him a second time. Hey, I'm happy w/it as long as it isn't a 8 yd cushion with the CB's.

I'd agree that with McClellin in the mix we could run some 3-4 looks just not as a base defense. We'd need more of what we don't have right now to do it.

But for a change up from left to right we could run with Briggs, Urlacher, Roach and McClellin at LB and use both McClellin and Urlacher to blitz. Brian used to get some sacks in the old days before Lovie came along and he might welcome a shift in that direction occasionally.

The bigger problems would be upfront. We don't really have 3-4 type lineman but if we picked up a big two gap NT then Pep and Melton could play as 3-4 ends whenever we used it but to me it would be strictly a blitz style defense we'd use on passing downs to bring pressure. Used that way it could give us an option or two that may help at times.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Sure. If I ever get the chance, I would have no problem telling him I want nothing to do with him as a coach with the Bears.

Why not? We all know that he's been horrible as HC but I wouldn't mind having him as LB coach. Are there any better candidates you have in mind right now? To be honest I've thought about it and couldn't find any. At least not yet.

Why do you want him? And please do not say because he is a former Bear.

Why do you want a crazy man working with a coaching staff that seems level headed?

Just for the sake of it:

He was very good as the 49ers LB coach
Well versed in 3-4 and 4-3, giving us some flexibility in coaches, were we to have need of a 3-4 defense.
