'00 Ravens D better than '85 Bears?

Ismail picks '00 Ravens D over '85 Bears
Former Ravens receiver
Qadry Ismail says the 2000 Baltimore defense was superior to the vaunted 1985 Bears' defense that carried Chicago to its first and only Super Bowl win.
"That 2000 defense it's up there with the all-time, if not the all-time best defense ever, including the '85 Bears," Ismail, now a Ravens broadcaster, said Wednesday on "Carmen, Jurko & Harry" on ESPN Chicago 1000. "It wasn't quite the domination that you would expect (from) that Bears team compared to the total and utter destruction that this 2000 Ravens team inflicted on its opponents. When you have guys like
Jerome Bettis,
Eddie George,
Corey Dillon and
Fred Taylor in his prime getting up and just flat out saying we can't play. They're not giving us a chance.
"When you have quarterbacks scared to go back in, that's what the defense brought to the table. "
The 2000 Ravens allowed just 165 points (10.6 per game) all season, an NFL-record and were almost impossible to run on, giving up just 970 yards rushing, another league record. Baltimore posted four shutouts and had 11 games in which they allowed 10 or fewer points.
The 1985 Bears defense was the backbone of a 15-1 season and punished quarterbacks with Buddy Ryan's 46 scheme. They had 64 sacks and led the league in points allowed (198), yards allowed (4,135), interceptions (34) and turnovers (54).
Lol, it's like saying LeBron is better than Michael Jordan. Both teams are from different eras but we all know who set the standard.
How many Super Bowl team amassed minus 19 yards in the First Half and only went positive in yardage after the opposing team put in their defensive reserves? The answer is one team: the '85 New England Patriots. Bears D was beyond sick.

Ah yes, Quadry Ismail.

I remember being like 13 when this card came out. Had the entire set in a binder. And I have no idea how this is relevant to this thread. BUT, the 2000 Ravens' D was close to the '85 Bears.
I'm BACK, Jack... or something..

Call me Ishmael. I am in a "quandary", because I can't even figure out how to spell my name. Either one. So you have to believe me when I say I know which team was better.

Raven's D was one of the toughest to score on but if you factor in turnovers, sacks, hits and a giant tactical edge w/the 46 it's Bears all the way. Plus, that's not even counting the confusion and psychological intimidation factor.

Either way, that would be the worst sb ever. The ravens even had a 5 game span in which the offense didn't even score a td, so i'm inclined to say it's silly to disregard them on taht, as the best defense. If they had a decent qb, they probably would've had 15 regular season wins, too. Just thank god they didn't draft Brady..

The '85 Bears are still the gold standard, but I'm biased. The Ravens' run was impressive. That D was awfully, awfully good, and carried a quite pedestrian offense to a Lombardi Trophy. One thing I'm sure, and that is Trent Dilfer still has to call Ray Lewis and get permission to wear his SB ring!

Bears also did all that without 2 starters DE Al Harris and SS Todd Bell. Let the others try that.

LMAO! Ray? It's Trent. Yeah Dilfer.....the guy you used to call our QB the dildo, remember. Well anyway I'm gonna be on a pre-game show today and I just wondered if it was alright......you know.....er can I wear the ring?
Well being that he's a Raven broadcaster I mean what would he say right? That the Bears were better? Not likely. We each have our own opinions but when great defenses are talked about it's that '85 Bears defense that comes up first. They just scared the ever lovin' shit out of QBs.
The only thing I regret is that early fumble by Payton and that gimme FG the Pats got early. If not for that Ditka wouldn't have subbed as much as he did and we'd have shut them out too. No team has or ever will go through an entire set of playoff games AND a SB without giving up a single point and most everyone knows that if not for that early score that's exactly what would have happened.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I know the ravens had lewis and Priest Holmes as a backup, but the Ravens had to do more than the 85 Bears D to make up for shortcomings elsewhere.
-
I know this is probably blasphemy, but I'm just getting sick of talking about the '85 Bears. lol
