29 is not old for an offensive lineman. He should have a number of years left, of solid play. Also, if we finally have decent oline coaches now, then we should be able to develop solid young talent. This way we'll have a young group of OL being groomed to step up in future seasons if needed (and at least be solid backups if needed in the meantime).
I'm not talking about pixie dust coaches, and coaches who "develop" the 32nd ranked olines. But guys who can actually coach guys up, and put a great offensive line in front of Cutler & Forte.

Totally disagree sure when your looking for that one guy that can plug a badly need hole in your O ine the best way to go is to draft. But in the Bears case we need a T, G and C and that is way too much to ask to fine in one draft. Fa is our best chance to fill some of our needs on the O line and what ever we don't get in FA fill in with the draft.
But unlike some of you I am not looking to fill our needs with top FA. Why because they are not replacing top O line players. If we can pick up a couple of second tier and maybe a third tier player or two we will be light years ahead of what we put on the field this year.
Another key factor is maybe this year when we sign someone they will actually play the position we sign them to play.

Yeah eventually you need to build your line through the draft but when you have one specific immediate need than you can't fill that way ya' gotta do it differently.
If there was a player capable of starting at LT in 2013 who was still on the board at #20 then I'd day yeah draft him but that's about as likely as Webb swearing off Taco Bell and becoming a vegetarian. Or in other words it ain't gonna happen.
I'm sure we'll be drafting a lineman in the first two rounds and maybe both of the first two rounds but it's not likely to be a starting LT.

That's still enough tread on the tires for a 4-5 year deal and if you structure it right you can get out from under after year two or three if a younger guy can come along and beat him out. OLineman usually hit their prime in the mid to late 20s anyway so he'd be fine while we went looking for an eventual replacement.
