We don't have a 3rd round pick this year, so we will be very limited as to the ability to draft talent this year.
$8 mil and that's in line with what he's averaged per year over the last 5 years.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

So a 5 to 6 million dollar deal would not bet out of the question then if he is truly willing to be reasonable. That extra 2 or 3 could go into getting a LT and have the mlb situation good for another year.

he wants to give them a discount? Play for the minimum that we can have even more depth and you finally win the SB with us. Doubt he would do this.
Just think about this PR wise. The face of the Bears returns because he wants to return to his team and to help them most, money doesn't matter any more.

Yeah that's very possible and I was thinking maybe something more like the $4-$4.5 mil range depending on the length of the deal, guarantees, bonus etc.
We could offer a lower base with a guarantee and then bonus up the deal so that $5-$6 mil is easily attainable of he plays like the Urlacher of old.

Uh huh, just like you'd go to work for minimum wages just so the company could afford to hire better sales reps to sell more product. You can get employee of the month for that kind of generosity too but it don't pay the bills brother.

not compareable...
BU shouldn't get too much on his contract, he is close to being done. If he's smart, he takes a big paycut to have more Cap Space

Maybe to you but I'm sure Brian would feel somewhat differently.
Even if we base it simply on his abilities as a leader and defensive field captain he's worth more than the $940k an 10+ year vet gets. Even worthy experienced backups usually get more than the minimum and he's a starter and still a very good one even if he's no longer playing at an All Pro level.
He's not gonna play for that and you can't even offer that little. That WOULD be a huge insult. Now if HE wants to offer to play for that well then that's a different story but I don't see that happening anymore than I see you going into work tomorrow and asking for an 80% salary reduction, LOL.
And if you're gonna propose to spend other folks money for them or do their salary negotiations that is applicable where I come from.

I really think anything over $4 Mil is overpaying, and over $5 Mil we should just move on. I'm also starting to think a realistic replacement for him has already been drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft.

Maybe so brother. McClellin doesn't have Urlacher's deep coverage skills yet but he's got the speed and the range to learn it. That why I'm not panicking over Te'o or another ILB in the first. Tucker may change the way we play that coverage anyway and if he doesn't we still have Roach who doesn't have the size but has good speed and we have DeCicco who isn't as heavy but he has Urlacher's height. We're not totally without prospects who are already around.
I'm not making a call as far as what Urlacher should be paid. That's up to them to decide but I'm thinking what Urlacher may be looking for will be in the range of the $4.5 mil salary Briggs is getting. Anything beyond that should probably be a bonus that would pay off against the 2014 cap. I may be wrong but I think it's gonna be tough to expect it to be much less than that. He said he's willing to play at a discount not for free, LOL.

Urlacher didn't fall off the face of the earth last season and I'm pretty sure he was leading the team in tackles when he went down with the hammy. I think Soul is realistic with the $4 million mark and I don't see the contract going beyond 2 years. Stein and Emery will load it up with work-out bonuses, performance bonuses and roster bonuses to make it worth it for Urlacher.
