Drake was just a yes man under Lovie and if Lovie had ever learned anything about offensive football as he should have after nine years then Drake and a whole lot of other guys wouldn't have kept their jobs as long as they did. Drake was not handed the worst prospects in the world but he couldn't coach those guys up to be even half way decent #1 guys. Not one of them.
If you gave him a Julio Jones he would have found a way to screw with him too. I'm just glad he out of here and that Marshall is willing to take the time to help make Jeffery his clone. He won't get much better coaching anywhere else but do you even think that would have been possible had Drake been around? Hell no. Drake would have resented it because it would have been a threat to his job. Darryl Drake is a tool.
Thats what I said. Anyway ... that was last year.

I'm thinking too much is expected out of these position coaches by many on this board. While it would be quick to be denied, one is left the impression that a great position coach is the matter between success and failure, and that anytime a position has an outstanding year makes that coach great. Drake and no one else was ever going to turn any of these WR projects into anything worthwhile. Also, can anyone name the last WR drafted that WASN'T a project (Berrian and Knox were speedsters with nothing else, Bennett couldn't pick up Turner's playbook the first year and hasn't played to his fullest capabilities yet, Hester didn't have a true position, Gage and Wade had horrible QB's here and were buried in the depth chart, other guys i'm forgetting were among many of Angelo's beloved "should've been a first round pick if not for injuries" guys that never played because of injuries)? I'm not saying dude is very good, but let's not make fun of Webb as a player that's never going to "get it" and then turn around and criticize coaches that can't turn around guys like Hester because reality shows there's not much that's gonna ever happen.
Essentially, what I'm saying is, if a guy has, if nothing else, shown improvement in the players he deals with, then he must be worth something (Jeffery came out swinging, Bennett is hot and cold, but when he's on, he's on, and everyone else has shown improvement).

You make a good point. I agree that it's not ALL on the position coach.
Our offense has been like a highly dysfunctional family, over the past several years.
1. Part of the problem was a parade of crap QB's.
2. Yes, there has been a lack of WR talent also.
3. We've also had some horrific offensive lines that couldn't give the QB's time to throw. Or for WR's to complete routes before the QB was a roadkill.
4. We've had absolutely CRAZY offensive coordinators who couldn't call a decent game if their lives depended upon it.
5. We've had a head coach that didn't seem to understand anything about the offense anyway.
So, I agree, Henry, that putting too much blame on the position coach is not a realistic picture of the overall problem. That's why Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith were fired.
Total incompetence. Dysfunctional to the max.

Sorry............
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
