A useful NFL salary guide
You can see where every player ranks in Base, average and cap hit (1-10) per year.
Interestingly, Cutler ranks 6th in base pay for QBs in 2012 and 10th in terms of cap hit.
At the moment, Cutler is not listed in the top 10 in either for 2013

Yeah, but sporttrac has a history of getting cap numbers wrong. They are saying Cutler is due 8.4 million in 2013.

What is he getting in salary then and from what source? Spotrac is generally fairly accurate and in this case their cap number jives.

2012 NFL Top Base Salaries - Quarterback As it stands his play wouldn't earn him a top ten salary right now anyway. This really should help some with his negotiations to the Bears benefit.

that's why we should sign Cutler to an extension and lower his Cap hit a bit for next season while keeping him

That may be a consideration going through their heads in the front office right now. There are several contract that if the were reworked and extended that along with a couple of player releases could easily double our cap excess so I'm sure Emery and Stein are looking at those possibilities.
