Reality is beginning to set in for me now.

I have been thinking this one over for some time. With the (almost) complete change in the coaching staff, there is a real chance that the Bears could regress next year. There are just so many things that have to "go right" for the Bears not to. Perhaps it is my touch of negativity leftover from the Lovie era? I am hopeful that next year will be better, but I understand that it may be necessary to accept a "one step back, two steps forwards" situation.

I don't know if the Bears will be better next year, but I do believe that the Bears will be better with time.

*sigh* you guys are looking at this the wrong way. You have to realize how unprecedented firing Lovie Smith was. Usually when coaches are fired, its because the team does poorly year in, and year out and they usually have a lack of talent across the board and they need YEARS to rebuild. You never see a team with a franchise QB and RB, Probowl WR, HOF MLB and DE, Probowl Corners, OLB and KR lose their coach. THis team HAS the talent. In fact, i would say that the only two people who might struggle with new coaches would be AJ and Mclellin since they are rookies.

Yes, we still need to adress the OL before our offense takes off, but i have every confidence in Emery. With a solid OL, Trestman is going to turn our offense into one of the best in the league. Our defense is another story, we HAVE talent, but they are getting older, and i really really really wished that Marinelli had stayed on. So yeah, i could see our defense regress a little bit, but our offense will more then make up for that.

I think Emery know that there would not be enough change in the Offense as long as Lovie was here and we need change. So far no big name player has stated he wants out so the Defense should stay about the same as it would have under Lovie except we might have gone after more D in FA. The biggest chages will com on Offense and that is what this team needs.

This. The team has talent unlike other teams who fire their head coaches. I don't think the offense can play as poorly next year as it did this past year. The defensive scheme also won't be changing much. The real indicator is whether they re-sign Urlacher or not if he is being reasonable for his contract price.

I'm 100% positive about the changes. It's not that I'm worried. It's more of a feeling that it may take a bit of time to refine everything so the team is performing smoothly, and up to its full potential.

I don't know if any of you guys are computer nerds, but I am. Yesterday I thought it reminded me of a project I took on a few years ago. I've always built our own computers, and once got the bright idea to build our own web & mail server on a Linux machine. I built the hardware, and configured the software so that the machine was a rock solid mail and web server.

It worked out great, but it didn't work great when I first fired it up. In fact it was a lot of work getting everything tuned and configured correctly. But in the end it was definitely a "good thing" to do.

I thought about this yesterday, regarding the Bears. There is going to be a learning curve, and there will be a ton of new moving pieces for Trestman to pull together, and he'll need to tune and configure everything. It will (hopefully) be a "good thing" too. But just like that computer project, it may take a lot of work to get everything right. I don't expect anything near perfection on day-1 of the regular season.

I also don't expect the team to be a mess. It will be a decent team day-1. It just won't be the finished product when he fires this baby up for that first game of the regular season. Lots of tuning and configuring to do throughout this 1st season.

But I'm not worried. I'm happy. :smile:

I understand the fine tuning aspect, but when you compare it to this past season, the next season looks bright on the offensive side. We had a new offense at the beginning of last season with Mike Tice as the offensive guru. We also had very liittle talent on the offensive line. If we can at least get a LT in free agency and draft an OG/C we should drastically improve on the offensive side of the ball. We were at the same point at the beginning of the 2012 season as we will be in the beginning of the 2013 season on the offensive side of the ball; I have to think with competent people we will perform much better. I also do not see the defense regressing much from last year with Mel Tucker as the DC. The only issue I foresee is if Urlacher/Melton is not re-signed then there could be a definite drop off in talent. This off season will be very telling of what direction we are headed in.

I agree. I'm just preparing myself, so I don't have unrealistic expectations for the beginning games. Overall we're definitely heading in a better direction with Emery/Trestman. But there may be a few bumps in the road before the team is hitting on all cylinders. It probably will take a bit, to reach our potential this season. We may still win games, yet look a bit rough at first. We may even lose some games, that we'll learn from & improve as the season progresses.
