Does the NFL even have a say in the content of the commercials? CBS is the one that sells advertising spots.
As for the commercials...fast forward them with your DVR if you don't like them or have concerns your children will be permanently damaged from viewing them. Superbowl commercials are the most overrated over hyped phenomon of all time. EVERY year people say "they just didn't seem that good this year." It's like they forgot they are disappointed EVERY year.

Can not go to a Bears game because it is so God Damn expensive, and now, can not watch the Super Bowl with my kids unless I play TV "producer" and edit the content of the game myself...
Way to go NFL...!!!

Yeah, the commercials pretty much sucked and the half-time show was, to say the least, BORING. Every song (if you could call them songs) sounded the same. I just got up and made myself another drink so I didn't have to watch all the crap.

I have been harping on this for the past couple years to anyone who would listen (which is no one) Watching a football game with my kids is ridiculous. The trailers for horror/scary movies are not ideal for 5 year olds. The sex stuff is annoying, and pervasive, but it is not going anywhere. I get it. Target audience blah blah. Still, I feel the urge to b!tch. So I will. Thanks for starting the thread, gives space for said b!tching.

For the record, I was primarily referring to the half time show, I just provided the commercials as further support for my feelings. Like I said, I'm all about hot babes and such, and I'd like to find the outfit that Beyonce had on for my wife, but that would be for the bedroom and not out clubbing. I'm also not trying to be the moral compass for the nation or even this board, I respect the opinions on here even though they differ from mine. I just find it a little disingenuous that the league tries to make NFL football a family product, with Play 60 and family nights at training camps, kids activities at camps and even stadiums where kids can play during non-game periods. It is no secret that the league tries to appeal to kids as well as adults (which they succeed at doing), and then they have a VERY seductive half time show like that. The point is, if you want to see that, I don't have a single problem with, but it's all over the net, so why should they show it on one of the biggest stages in American Sport. People suggest that "if you don't like it, then shut it off or fast forward through it", well, it's network television at a sporting event, why the hell should I have to? That costume was awesome, and it was a very good show, but there were millions of kids watching this entire program in real time, and I'm pretty sure most women would not wear that out in public. I'm also not talking about kids that are 16 plus, but what about the millions that are younger?
As for overprotective parents, well, we have kids having kids all across the nation, Sexting is a major problem, drop-out rates are at an all time high, I have two teenagers right now and I see the distractions that they endure on a daily basis, and we're in a small town. Perhaps we should more accurately define what is "over-protective" and what is "responsible". Again, not trying to be a killjoy, just thinking out loud that the league could stand to tone things down a bit. Just sayin.

Here's my take on it.
You will not be able to avoid having your kids exposed to the sexy side of life. It's in the music, the fashion, TV, movies, games, ad's IN the malls, etc... There really isn't anywhere you can avoid it. That is simply the way it is. Sex sells and it doesn't much matter what we feel about it, we've gone too far down this road to change it now.
You could limit your kids exposure to this and, up until they hit a certain age, you might even get away with it. But... kids grow. Eventually, they go to a friends house... go to the mall... go to school with other kids... look out the window... watch TV on their own... etc. Eventually they ARE going to be exposed to it.
No big deal. Children throughout the ages have been exposed to things parents objected to such as those sinful hips of Elvis, the evil that is rock-n-roll, etc... Don't overthink it. It's far better for them to be exposed to it in your presence, so you can explain to them why it might be objectionable, than it will be for them to wander into life being exposed to it without your guidance at all.

Well bruh, that would be easier. However, I tend to think if we ALL went that direction, the spiral would accelerate. My kids are beyond that point with my youngest at 16, but when they were younger, we did the best we could. I agree with you about the depth and breadth of it all as we are too far down the path to reverse engines, but I still believe a little public decorum is important. I wonder if my grandkids will be watching open porn without any pay channels when they are 8 or 10.
