Idiot Bears fans harass GB Cheerleader

Packers cheerleader fights Facebook bullying, Bears fan removes photo

    By Jay Sorgi
    CREATED 8:48 AM

    Photo: Facebook

GREEN BAY - A woman who was a cheerleader this past season for the Green Bay Packers is fighting back against bullying by apparent Chicago Bears fans.
Kaitlyn Collins says that on Feb. 4, someone uploaded a picture of her to the Chicago Bears Fan Facebook page.

The photo had the caption "Like if You Agree The Packers Have The Worst Cheerleaders In The NFL!"
Scroll down to watch her video about bullying against her on Facebook.
As of 8:55 a.m. Thursday, the photo had nearly 3,500 likes and more than 640 comments.
One of the comments, according to Collins, says "Doesn't get uglier. Truly an eyesore."
Other comments had sexual connotations and vulgarity.
Apparently, many Bears fans joined in with Packers fans to denounce the comments.
Then, Collins posted her own video to fight the bullying.
She says she asked Facebook to take down the post, but so far, they have not done so.
Recently retired Packers wide receiver Donald Driver and current Packers guard T.J. Lang have tweeted their support for her as well.
UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, the photo has been removed.
The fan page that originally posted the message posted a new message on their Facebook page saying -
"We understand that you are hard core fans, but there's no need for bullying. We apologize for any hard feelings and encourage everyone to keep this page as a fun experience. Go Bears!"

Maybe not as big as the headline suggests (maybe it is, but I don't think so), but I think it's a good enough excuse to bring up something: Chicago Bears fans are a peg or two below Steelers fans in terms of annoyance. I'll admit I've had my fun with opposing fans when we win, but I've never understood the type of idiot that takes things too far. I know I've shared this story, but I'll share again: during the Bears Packers finale in 2010, I had drinking buddies that were Lions and Packers fans. Well, we're laughing about the horrible game plan the Bears had, and some idiot Bears fan start arguing with me because I have friends that aren't Bears fans. I have some good friends that are mature enough to show their admiration for this team, but it seems there are large numbers of Bears fans that are mouth breathing knuckle draggers. You guys have any similar experiences with other Bears fans, or fans of a different team?

Every team has idiot fans like this. Fans that just don't seem to know when they've stepped over the line. Some teams seem to have it more prevalently than others, however for the most part I think Packer and Bear fans are pretty good about it. I've never ever shied away from eating one of my own if they're overstepping their bounds.

Maybe i just see it in Bears fans more than i do in the other teams. Cowboy fans are the nicest, by far.

You tend to notice your own more than others I think. At least we don't have to worry about getting stabbed or shot when we go to games like 49ers/Raiders do.

The guy was a jerk and it was a shitty thing to do but Evernight is right. Every team has it's share of asshats. I think we can all remember the douche bag holding that sign about Hurricane Katrina before the Bears vs Saints playoff game in 2006. Some guys are insensitive assholes and that's not gonna change. They are what they are no matter whose colors they're flying.

The only thing worse is when other fans defend the stupidity.

Philly fans. Absolute worst fans in any sport.

Also, im not really defending the bullying since i dont know who said what, but there are times when people make jokes that are tongue-in-cheek and not exactly bullying. Like if i saw that pic of the GB cheerleader on my FB newsfeed, i would probably make a comment along the lines of "what is that girl doing out of the kitchen, that cheese aint gonna make itself." Is that bullying? If so, looks like i have a helluva lot of apologies to dish out, since i makes jokes at other peoples expense all the damn time on FB.
    I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

You don't need to apologize, you're just getting even.

Their apology listed in the article is fine. But I seem to recall when I read it on their page that it sounded more condescending to the "bullies" than it did taking accountability for their part in it. WTF did they think would happen? I'm glad they apologized.

BUT...let me offer this thought too and play devil's advocate. I don't know how she felt about the "bullying" but let's be honest here. While cheerleading is evolving and becoming an actual sport, it's hard to make the claim that NFL cheerleaders serve any other purpose than to be eye candy. This young lady chose to put herself out there and the Packers chose to put her in front of everyone knowing that looks and sex appeal is the goal. If those choices produce a "fail"...well, I think you're naive to think at least some people won't be outspokenly critical.

I agree that there's always a percentage of idiot fans for any team. You see some of them at Bears games. They're the ones who are out-of-their-minds drunk and abusive to fans sitting nearby who just want to enjoy the game & not get vomited on.

Usually they are so drunk they couldn't possibly remember anything they see at those games. You'd think that if getting drunk and stupid was their only goal - they'd just do that at home in front of the TV. But they're too brain dead to figure that one out.

One game, years ago, I brought my son and two of his best friends to a Bears game. They were about 12 years old at the time. One of these idiot fans - out of the blue - thought I'd said something to provoke him. I hadn't said one word to the guy. The kids and I were just enjoying the Bears game.

    He was just crazy-drunk.

He was going to light me up (and was big enough to do it) and all I could think was that I had these kids with me, who were going to probably end up getting hurt (the drunk had a drunk friend with him who was just as crazy).

It ruined the game for the kids and me. And Bears tickets cost a mint. Sure, people came and quieted the guy down, but by that time it had ruined the game experience. I felt bad for the kids. Just another drunk idiot at a Bears game.

It's not just Bears fans. And some can be aholes even if they are not sloppy drunk.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.
