I see only 3 scenarios where we fix LT : FA , trade UP , or have a crappy enough season this year that we're drafting top 10 next year . I don't care how it gets done ... but Webb MUST NOT be or starting LT ever again !

Well the scenario that I highlighted in red probably means that what's highlighted in blue is Webb did start, Cutler went down in game one and Matt Blanchard finished the season as the starting QB.
Scenario number three won't work because we don't have the ammunition to trade up for a rookie prospect who'd be reasonably sure of starting in 2013. Gotta have picks to burn for that and we don't have them.
So if we don't sign a FA LT to take Webb's place you can be just about 100% sure that he will be starting since we really don't have another LT on the roster. It could be worse. Just be glad he's not Frank Omiyale.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Then if I'm Emery and I don't get what I want in FA - then yes I would trade up to get a Fischer . A lockdown 10-12 yr starting LT is ( imo ) WORTH the extra pick or two given to get him .
Yes I think a LT of this caliber is worth it . Or we could just spend another 10 yrs with stopgap after so-so stopgap . I'm tired of stopgaps and 1st rd DE's who MIGHT get 15 sacks if we're lucky . I want one of the guys whos gonna STOP sacks from happening ! ( for once ) .

Sorry Alf but I may not have made myself very clear on that trade up thing. Here it is. It's not just an extra pick or two. We wouldn't have enough to do it if we traded all of the other picks we have in this draft to acquire a top five pick which is where Fisher is projected to go right now.
I'm sure Emery wouldn't do that or trade a bunch of future picks for one guy who plays OT. Just not gonna happen. The risk would be too big and you're still not gonna be 100% sure he could start for you year one. Fisher didn't play in a major college program.
You have to draft high to get a franchise type LT or you need to have multiple first and second round picks you can use to trade up with and we don't have them. We may see a guy like Lane Johnson fall as far as #20 but it's far less likely than landing one of the top OGs which is why I posted what I did.
Nobody would like to see that LT spot locked down anymore than Jay Cutler and me but I'm taking a realistic approach here. The cards aren't in our favor as far as getting a top FA or a top rookie prospect who can come in and make a difference this year.

What's my take lb? Based on some of the evaluations I've read lately Bushrod would give us little if anything more than Webb has but for a lot more money. Out of 35 LTs rated last for last year in one review he was 25th to Webb's 28th. Believe it or not Webb actually out ranked him as a pass blocker. Bushrod gives up a lot of hurries and struggles with speed just like Webb does. Webb is probably better in many ways but more inconsistent game to game.
Overall they're pretty much alike except that Bushrod made $4.9 mil per year and his last contract and will be looking for more this time whereas the most Webb can cost us is $1.3 mil. I also think at this point in time Webb probably has more room to improve than Bushrod does. Basically I've crossed him off my list as an upgrade.
Long had a terrible year last year and ranked 23rd and no one knows if he'll ever return to being the top pass blocker he once was and his run blocking is only average. He's gonna want way too much $$$ for the risks being taken. Let somebody else take them. He's just not worth a $10 mil plus per year deal to us and that's what he'll be looking for.
Albert and Beatty graded out best last year but Albert is probably not as good a run blocker as he is a pass blocker but at least he would probably represent an upgrade over Webb now. But a year from now or two years from now if Webb does continue to improve under Kromer who knows. He's gonna be looking for big money too and KC may actually want to keep him.
Beatty might be the best all around guy and maybe the least expensive because he's just coming of his rookie deal but I don't see NY just letting him walk. They're gonna try to keep him I'm sure. They just cut some vets to free up cap space and I would bet Beatty is one of the reasons why.
LB I don't think it's gonna be easy to find an ugrade for Webb even though there are 6 or 7 LTs hitting FA. I may be wrong and Emery already has his guy sighted and ready to swoop down on him right after the opening bell but I think you can be pretty sure that if it doesn't happen right away then he's gonna pass until the prices come down and maybe find a lesser talent to compete as opposed to replace.

Bushrod will end up with a Cap hit that will end up about 4 or 5 times more than Webb makes. He won't be an upgrade that's worth that difference unless they move Webb back to the right side
