The Chicago Bears terminated the contract of receiver and former Pro Bowl returner Johnny Knox on Tuesday, the team announced.Knox, 26, suffered a spinal injury on Dec. 18, 2011 on a hit by Seattle Seahawks defensive end Anthony Hargrove and hasn't played since. He underwent surgery to repair a fractured vertebra.
Former Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake, who is now with Arizona, was asked recently if Knox will play again.
"I don't know," Drake said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show." "I know he's working extremely hard. I think that's in God's hands. You never say never, you never know. Will he get there? I just don't know. I hope he does, because I think he's a special talent."

The Chicago Bears announced the signing of cornerback LeQuan Lewis on Monday.
The well-traveled Lewis began his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State. He also had stints with the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets before appearing in eight games last year with the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, totaling four tackles, one interception and a pair of pass breakups.
Lewis also returned five kickoffs for 106 yards.
The Bears may be forced to replace several reserve cornerbacks next season as veterans Kelvin Hayden, D.J. Moore and Zack Bowman are all scheduled to be unrestricted free agents

Great potential cut short by a serious injury. I never expected him to play again, and frankly, he's lucky to be walking. But this is sad news. Best of luck to Johnny.
A true survivor of the school of hard knocks.

Wish him the best of luck, and if he can play football again, hope he makes the best non-correct-route-running, non-jumping-up-for-the-ball WR he knew he could be, lol

Really sad news. I wish him the best.

Hell, he's lucky to be ALIVE. I honestly thought when I saw that hit, that we may have seen a death on the field. That was gruesome, and as said above, any normal person would at least be in a wheelchair. He may not think so, but it's probably best for him that his football career be done.

Damn it's a shame they cut him, but they gotta do what they feel is the best for the team.
It's so horrible what happened to Knox and I really hoped to see him overcome the injurie and play for the Bears again.
All the best goes out to you Johnny!

By far one of the ugliest hits I've seen a player take. Sad to seem him go, but the nature of the business (freeing up some cap space). Just a sign that his speed and athleticism isn't coming back after spinal fusion surgery little over a year ago. The quest for finding a potential deep threat is much needed this off-season.

Yep kind of a sad day in that regard although IF he ever does recover he just signs a new deal. No team can continue to carry cap dollars for for a player who's been that severely injured. Man that tough for him but you guys are right. He's fortunate to even be walking after taking that hit.
Knox was always one of my favorite players. To me he was always the bonus in the Cutler trade. He was the 5th round pick we got back in exchange for our third and probably one of our better 5th round picks during JA tenure. He's not the most precise route runner but you couldn't find all that much fault with his deep ball or his KOR game. We've missed him and we need to find another like him.
Good Luck to you Johnny. God willing I'd love to see you able to play again someday but not if it risks your health or your life. Your family comes first now.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
