What is the deal w/E Williams, the guy has been backing up Garza for a while now, why isn't he being talked about as a possibility?

...because he's obviously not starter quality. Otherwise Spencer wouldn't have been brought in and Garza wouldn't have been moved to the middle. He hasn't exactly shined as a Guard either. Backup quality depth player, nothing else to see here.

I don't know why people here are holding on to unrealistic hopes for EWill to become a solid starter. It's not like he's new to the team, has never played at all, or had his potential held back by injury. He's not Brown or Carimi or Wooten. He's a known entity entering his 5th year. A decent 2nd tier player but that's about it.

I think it's because he's probably just another bum on the roster. If he was good he would be playing now. We have a lot of crap players now. Heck, our starters are crappy enough. Just imagine what this says about our scrubs.

It's enough to make a person cry in his beer.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I wouldn't say he'd be playing now JABF, he had Garza in front of him, and Garza wasn't going to be replaced mid year. But he might well be a bum.

I don't know that we have a ton of bums on the OL right now, just a handfull that should not be starting and are. Carimi/Brown both showed ability to be decent gaurds and both are young. Louis is quality, and I think Scott can be a solid RT for us. That leaves LT and C(if williams isn't an option) as needs.

I think Garza is pure crap at center. If he couldn't beat out Garza, then to me he's worse than crap. Ric, I just think that at some point we all need to realize there is no way to have a solid offensive line without talent. Real talent.

We are like a dysfunctional family now. We are so used to trying to make due with bad talent. You read some of these posts and step back and think "we're pathetic" in how we try to rationalize how we can "make due" by changing other variables. But the truth is we need to wake up and understand that there is a talent problem here. It's been going on for years now.

I'm not disagreeing w/you. talent is needed, but I think there is talent there, in some areas, but the previous staff didn't seem to be able to utilize it. example the fact that the backup line was able to out perform the starting line. That speaks volumes to coaching and evaluation.

I don't think Garza was ever, regardless of performance, of losing his job. That is a pretty standard Lovie thing. I don't know that will be a problem w/Trestman.

Ric, those are all good points, and I am so hoping that there is some decent talent somewhere & it's not an entire roster of crap OL players. I'm open to what ever the new coaches think when they evaluate them. Even if it's somebody we've seen stink it up in the past like Carimi and Webb. Only time will tell.

I don't think carimi will stink it up next year, and if he does I think Brown can step in for him(at LG).

C might well be a problem area, I'm hardly going to say it isnt. I'm just stunned that no one talks about E Williams at all. No one talks about him as a replacement or a waste, it's complete silence.

We need depth no doubt, But I think an FA LT and Scott leave us w/solid T's(depending on who we get in FA for LT), I think Louis/Carimi/Brown make up solid G's), and if Webb has improved I hope he's quality backup for the T position. That really leaves C and depth as the only issue. And I don't see the need to take round 1 and round 2 in OL IF that's the case; not when we need an MLB and probably DB help.

I figure it's a waiting game right now. Waiting to see how the new regime grades out the players. This could go a number of ways from there. The bottom-line for me is that I'm hoping they do whatever it takes to FINALLY build a solid offense, beginning with a solid offensive line. We'll (hopefully) be all ohh's and ahhhs over seeing guys who can block, run routes, catch footballs & maybe if we're REALLY lucky, we'll get a glimpse of an NFL quality TE (you know, a guy who can actually catch a football).

As ole Gomer Pyle would say - Shazzam!

I respect your opinion, JABF, but what about Garza at center is pure crap? His 2011 season was remarkably decent for having not played it in forever. His last year the whole line struggled at short yardage up the middle but I blame our guard situation for that. Always have, which is why I don't want him back at guard. He had a kind of season last year I would have expected from him in 2011 for stupid penalty crap, and his sacks for a center was higher than I like. But he's durable and a leader. I don't need to see him back at RG if Louis is healthy or LG where he struggled at in 2010. I want a real LG like I have been pining for awhile.

I'm hopeful our new OC does not do like Tice and just bring back blocking sleds and remove the box step and call it a day. Tice failed to evaluate our current roster. If they say goodbye to Garza because he is expensive or for an upgrade, that's great. We need every position upgraded, and he's not a long term solution anymore. But man, I look at our line and think we need a new body everywhere. I'm not even high on Louis because he never can finish out a season healthy. I could easily see us sticking with Garza at C and Kromer focusing on the guards and tackles. He managed to make a guy in De La Puenta into a viable starter, but I think that's in part because he played in between Nicks 2011/ Grubbs 2012 and Evans. Hell, I'd look great beside those two.
