Tillman is easier to restructure with an extension than Pep will be. Keep Spaeth as the blocking TE and cut Davis. The numbers aren't that much different and Spaeth does his job far better than Davis does his. If he steps up and stops whining Hester is worth keeping around. The only way you get rid of him is if the draft brings someone who could replace him.
We can gain enough by redoing a couple of other deals to add enough for our needs. They could think about extending Jennings deal as well and reduce his cap costs too. A little here and a little there and it adds up.
Tillman should be atop of our priority list heading into Free Agency. Should be done within the next 2 weeks. Melton will get the Tag and won't make it to Free Agency. We have time with him.
Spaeth is too pricy for what he brings. That was a Martz move and nothing else. You can find cheaper TEs that have to block. His Cap Hit will be 1.8 or something like that, right? That's too much for what he offers and what we'll need under the new scheme we will see.
Restructure Jennings wouldn't help us with the Cap. Guy is a good CB and isn't paid much. He will get much more money on his next contract. Only positiv would be that we keep him around for sure
I know this sounds fucking crazy ... but do you think theres guys on this team that want a SUPERBOWL ring with a certain team and should they get that ring after humping their asses off for that team thoughout their career?
Spaeth's cap hit is $1.958 mil and change but if you release him all you save is his $1.025 mil salary and a $600k bonus if he earns is. Actually a mil and change in salary with some incentives is pretty cheap for a TE of his caliber when you consider that Davis is getting $2.5 mil and has do nothing more than suck like he did last year to earn that. If you're gonna keep one or the other which one would it be?
I agree with you G. I doubt they'll restructure Jennings just yet unless they want to lock him up long term with an extension because his salary is only $4.25 mil and that's not huge for a Pro Bowl CB. Given his size and the way he plays that may not be smart right now. But Tillman gets $7.95 mil in salary and we could definitely benefit by extend his deal a couple of years and cutting his cap cost of $8 mil in half. There's Urlacher's salary for 2013 right there.
If we can free enough cap space to poach levitre and bushrod in fa and still keep urlacher and roach and Melton it could definitely open up things for us in the draft. But this will require lots of salary cap magic first
LeVitre I might be interested in for OG money but not Bushrod for LT money mo. We gain little or nothing as far as the caliber of play and we add about cap cost that could be better spent another way. If we're gonna go after a LT then I think it should be Beatty provided NY actually lets him get to FA.
If we ever got lucky enough to sign Beatty to a $5.5-6.0 mil per year deal and were able to draft Warmack or Cooper to play LG alongside him I'd be grinning ear to ear. Then if Louis fully recovers in time for camp and Carimi gets his game straightened around my asshole would be grinning too.
Even with Garza in the middle that would be a good looking young line.
I hear you soul mainly my thing is go into draft with least amount of needs as possible so we don't draft on desperation like we did with JA but instead draft bpa. I don't want another Chris Williams situation where it was so damn predictable a draft pick and so desperate taking lesser talent that early in draft. Maybe instead of throwing names out there I should have just said if we got a lt and lg in fa our draft might be able to lift us to Super Bowl contenders next season
I wish we had the cap space to do it mo but I don't think we do. We may have the room to take a shot at one top tier guy but unless we redo some deals cap space shrinks by 60% once we tag Melton and we still have quite a few more guys of our own to sign.
I think after the Combine is over and the staff finishes it's player evaluations we'll see a flurry of stuff happening and some guys are gonna get let go. If we re-sign Urlacher we can forget about LB for another year and use those first two picks either on OL or and OL and a TE.
LeVitre would be perfect. If we get him or Vollmer I don't care much about what else we change.
