The OL doesn't need such a huge overahaul that it needs the first two picks to be OG/C's. The rest of the team needs some help also, LB, DB(probably losing some of those guys this year).

I would like to see it go like this:
Trade down in first round(And possibly get a 3th round pick in combine with other) get C(Barret Jones hello!)
2th round go OG.
3th round go MLB/TE/WR BoP
4th go TE/WR BoP
I'd be happy with that.
He'll be back. But it's a bit like Urlacher's situation where he wasn't in game shape, and had to play himself into shape over a number of games. And we also need to take into account the fact that he may not be the same player he was before the injury. He could be fine after the injury, but that's not a given. Not everyone is Adrian Peterson.
So there's a lot going on here. Ya hope for the best but be prepared for the worst - or anything in between.
Pugh is listed as an OT going into the draft so taking him with a 2nd round pick isn't necessarily drafting two OGs. More like an OG and an OT who may be able to move inside.
I'd have no problem at all with us taking two OL with our first two picks. I'm not all that enamored of the MLB group and I'd be deadly opposed to taking a TE in round one when we have much bigger needs and it's a position we should be able to fill in FA.
I'd be happy with a OG and OC as well. TE later on in the draft (and FA). Throw in a LT in FA and that would go a long way.
Henry Burris said:Maybe that should be called an Angelembolism? (pronounced, an-gel-em-bo-liz-em). Had to ask.Quote:
Emery is getting an Angelo-embolism (symptoms include: loss of ability to explain draft picks, drafting Dan Bazuin, trading down at every opportunity to get those coveted 5th round picks).
Can't wait for free agency, there will be so much more clarity after we see what moves are (successfully) made.....
I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday. Once we see Emery's key FA moves, then the draft picture will make more sense. Right now, we really don't know much about our draft moves. Every key FA acquisition will make the Bears draft a bit easier to understand.
This is my ideal draft as well
I love the idea of back to back IOL picks to start us off
Travis Frederick would be another good center if for whatever reason we didn't take jones in the first (only scenario I see better than jones on a trade down is Warmack)
Warford would be the ideal 2nd rounder but I like the idea of the guy mentioned above depending on how emery/Trestman/scouting dept grade theese guys out.
Just one thing to consider when trading down. A mid third is worth about 200 points give or take 25 points so that means we trade out of #20 back to anywhere from around #27 to #29. Personally I don't see the wisdom of taking the risk if the guy we absolutely want may be gone before that and there is always that risk. The only way that trade down makes sense is if there are a couple of guys you could take that late and be happy with either of them.
For example; if we want a guy like Warmack or Cooper badly and either or both are there I don't think we trade back hoping that just because they're OGs they'll drop farther. Both are ranked in the top 20 prospects overall and either would be a great pick at #20.
Conversely if those two are gone and we're looking at Jones and/or Fluker and those two rank as #52 and #49 overall there's a real good chance one or both will still be there later in one so there a trade back 7-9 spots to pick up a third makes some sense.
Grizz I know your guy is Jones so that does make some sense but the caution is this. There's a pretty big drop off in the current grading between Warmack and Cooper and the next group of OGs and that has to come into play if one of the top OGs is still on the board at #20. Guys like Warmack and Cooper are graded and ranked much higher than either Jones, Fluker or Pugh and much higher than Warford, Travis Fredrick or Kyle Long.
So if you can get an OG like a Randall McDaniel or a John Hannah type do you pass on him for an OC like one of the Pouncey brothers or an OT like a Michael Oher? My comparisons may not be perfect but I think they're close.
Just sayin'.
