Based on what I saw of him at G this year and his non-ideal height for the position, I think Carimi needs to get himself back into pre-injury shape and win the RT job. Brown may have potential at LG but too soon to count on him. Rachal is a goner, Ewill blew, and Spencer absolutely sucks. So, I must disagree...we have nothing solid to speak of at LG and its a major hole.Quote:

Ric, it would certainly help immensely if Brown becomes an "udfa steal" for us next year and nails down the LG job. Love to see it. No way to rely upon that right now. Of course, we still have injury question marks regarding Carimi and Louis and we have all heard the "he will improve with more reps" thing about Webb for a couple years now. He has improved but only from an F to a D+, so understand why there's legitimate skepticism here.Quote:

I think it is extremely far fetched when you need a MLB, TE, at minimum that are going to play substantial time/and or start(MLB might be starting if BU isn't here). I think people are looking at how the OL was for most the year and not how they were at the end. They looked solid at the end of the year, still need help, still need a FA LT and a C, but it wasn't like they needed a complete overhaul like they looked like most of the year.

There is depth everywhere in the draft, but some positions are more likely to be deeper then others, and G is one of deeper ones, not only do you have a lot of G's, but also C's/T's that aren't good enough to play those positions can be drafted for G. Soul pointed out that the majority of the NO's OL were mid rounders, not day 1 guys. Good coaching/scheme can do wonders for players and I think you'll find that will be the case next year. Trestman is far more WCO then anything else and that alone will be a huge help to the OL.
I think Angelo always pictured himself as the intellectual type and in quite a few cases he outsmarted himself on draft day passing up one good player to draft two also rans with athleticism and upside which is why the article he wrote that Tommy posted is so comical. He's now advising against the very things that he did. Not to be unkind but I now see that some of Lovies stoicism was there to hide his ignorance about certain things and one of those was what good offensive football was all about at a level that a HC should understand it.Quote:
