So, does this now move Te'o back up the baords? Which is a bigger gamble?

This helps Te'o. Ogletree has now had issues with drugs, theft, DUI & surrounding himself with an "entourage" of deadbeats. Te'o was just duped.....and at worst he told a lie once he was duped. I think teams will be less afraid of drafting Te'o. Of course there are some really stupid teams that do really stupid personnel moves. They usually shoot themselves in the foot with these moves though.

So, essentially, everyone knows he sucked at drafting in the early rounds (perhaps because he weighted character too heavily), but was decent in the late rounds (when he overlooked character).
I'll tell ya, as someone who watches Georgia football almost every week during the college season, Ogletree is a hell of a player. Word is that he has entourage issues. So the big question is will he bring his entourage to the NFL.
If so, then we pass on him until his value is so clearly above the current draft position you can't help yourself. If not, then he is worth the risk. Ray Lewis had entourage issues. Let's just hope no one ends up dead.
Personally, I wouldn't take him @ #20, but I'd have a hard time passing him up in the second round.
This I'd agree with. I just don't see anyway that first pick should go anywhere else but to the best OL we can take there. But at #50 if he falls that far yeah, you'd have to give some real thought. I don't think he'll fall that far though despite his issues.

Both. I think Te'o's fortunes in round one are gonna depend a lot on his results at the Combine. I still think he has too many issues with his speed and lack of coverage skills at the next level to make me feel real comfortable with him as a replacement for Urlacher. I'd rather wait for the next Luke Kuechley. Mad skills and high character. I think all this years batch have some risk to them.

I tend to agree soul. Look, it's hard to look at the guys THIS year and feel comfortable with what your getting, much less a year in advance, but as it stands right now, there are some intrigueing prospects coming out next year. I'm sure Emery is already looking at 2014.

Te'O IMO just hit the jackpot. As Charlie Sheen would say "Te'O is winning."

Still think about drafting Te'o with the 1st and OL in the 2nd. Could end up as the best value for us.
Can't free agency start already?

Honestly, the whole fake girlfriend thing is one of those "fads" that jumps out from the sports world that only people who DGAF about sports really care about. I can't imagine anyone whose job is on the line every year if they don't continually get the best talent available saying "oh god, they made fun of him on SNL, there's no way I would ever draft that guy!", because that sounds more like something an idiot would say. The sad thing is, too many people are remembering him for the loss against Alabama. That team continually has the most NFL ready prospects of any university, and seeing how the SEC owns the national championship, to see it as mind boggling for a high quality linebacker to not have his best game is absurd. It's like how Elway used to be a joke amongst NFL fans because he didn't win the big one.
Even so, when the combines start picking up (which, I always believe should only be used as the deciding factor between a couple of players teams have trouble deciding between, not letting a guy "skyrocket" from the second or third to the first, which always ends in disaster), people almost always forget about their playing careers and focus on how many reps they can do, or what their wonderlic score was, so even the fans are going to be cheering Manti on. Unless Manti has a horrible combine, dude is gonna get drafted higher, because the only other competition for his spot is an unreliable headache and Manti has shown his dedication to the game and to being a damn good human being. Again, you have a guy that busts his ass studying film and being a model NFL citizen, or a guy who gets DUIs and busted for drugs, obviously not caring about his own future. We're not gonna get Manti, because some GM that has a bad defense and a need for a leader will pick him ahead of us, and we're not going to get Ogletree because the risk of him not being in the NFL very long is too high. I think Soul may start to agree with me, just based off of the fact that Jeff Pearlman still thinks Manti was the only one behind this thing(you should stop while you're ahead, jeff)..
I really think we should try to sign Jonathon Vilma. Granted, he hasn't been the beast he was expected to be, since his knee injury while playing for the Jets many years ago, but he would be a fine stop-gap if Urlacher just can't make it another season.

Haven't been here in a long time, but IMO, say no to T'eo. Good college player without the speed to play at the next level. To bad Ogletree continues to do dumb stuff. I like OL in the 1st and at LB, I like the Minter kid from LSU.

I'm not a big Te'o fan. Like Chisportsfan, I don't think his game will translate to the NFL. In fact, I think he reminds me of Brian Bosworth for some reason.
I'm sure Te'o will benefit some from Ogletree's mistake, but he shouldn't because the risk of getting a far superior athlete with social problems is better than getting a average athlete without social problems (debatable in my mind, but there are other threads for that discussion).
