The reigning SB Champions draft guys like Jimmy Smith who had multiple failed drug tests, a couple abortions with his gf and a bevy of arrests including assault. They draft the guys who play the best between the lines and rely on the locker room to put these kids in their place and teach them how to be pros and part of an NFL family.

Do we really want to be like them or set a better example for our children and as fans ?

I could give a shit about setting an example in the world's most violent game. I want to win ****ing Superbowls. Did a damn soul on TV mention Smith's or Lewis' checkered pasts while they were standing on the podium raising the ultimate prize? And it's not like I'm saying sell your soul for trophies, you just make sure you have a strong enough locker room with the type of leadership that forces these rooks to come in and play the role of a pro. Besides, there's always going to be the community guys who go shoot the shit with families and kids.

Just want to see NFL Football being played ... the rest of the motherfuckin BULLSHIT I can do without.
Why would I give two shits about anybodys personal issues ? But then again this is the media focus and it harms the team.
Cedric Benson ? He might be a hellova nice guy to hang out with ... but the media focus doomed him and us along with him.
Thats the fuckin kind of shit no team needs. Lets look at the OTHER side of this ... how many players DONT fuck up and isnt that what we want on our team ?
Given the choice between WALTER PAYTON and Cedric Benson ... which one do you want to be the BEARS idenity ?
BTW ... who the fuck did better ?

What kind of inane question is that? Comparing an all-time great to an all-time bust? Cedric was a dick with no concept of team. Ogletree may have his off-the-field issues, but if you knew what the hell you were talking about, you would also know he has a fantastic attitude on the field and his teammates love him as a leader. As much as off-the-field issues get overplayed, on-the-field and locker room reliability gets tossed aside with these kids.
Payton was no saint and one of the more media protected athletes of all time.

Thats the whole point. Do you want Payton or Ogletree ? Do we wanna go down this road again ?
We took Benson because he was a good RB in college ... it didnt translate to the pros until we cut him.
And ... where is he now ? I dont even know. Do you ?
Now heres how to play Oglatree and I hope he keeps on fucking up off field ...
because then he falls far enough for us to get him. Then we take a chance on him ... and if hes a headcase ..oh well.
If on the other hand he is as you say another Randy Moss ... well who cleans up there sweetheart ?

Benson's best games were all against small schools with bad defenses, but he shrunk in bigger games. Vince Young was able to win the NC without him for a reason. The only reason to hesitate on Ogletree is if his off-the-field issues may cause him to lose playing time.

I'm sure Te'o will benefit some from Ogletree's mistake, but he shouldn't because the risk of getting a far superior athlete with social problems is better than getting a average athlete without social problems. (debatable in my mind, but there are other threads for that discussion).
Lot's of truth here. We aren't drafting them for a church choir. The intriguing thing was that Emery took a chance on Marshall turning his life around and it paid off handsomely. The key with Ogletree is whether or not he's a bad egg all the way around or just uses stupendously poor judgement. The second is fixable if it's not also an indication that he lacks the football smarts to ever run a defense as it's MLB.
Guys can grow out of their immature behavior but stupid is for keeps. I think that's the main question we have facing us with Webb right now. Have his problems been related to his immaturity or is he really just too stupid to know better? If Ogletree is a little short in the intelligence and common sense department no matter how great and athlete he may be it's hard to imagine him leading a defense.

If that's the case and his latest scrape was truly a wake up call since it may have cost him a mil or two and already put him under the watchful eye of Saint Roger of Goddell before he even walks through the door of an NFL headquarters then he may be a very tough player to pass on if he's still on the board at #20.
Like I said if Emery felt this kid was another once in a decade kind of MLB prospect I'd have to accept the fact that he had him rated higher on his board than the OGs. I just hope he'd be happy playing SAM for a year or so while Urlacher performs his swan song. Man if there was ever a year when you wish you had two #1 picks this would be it. An OG like Cooper or Warmack and an ILB like Ogletree?
I wonder if this year 2nd and next years 1st could get us that #21 pick this year, LOL.

Sox anychance this guys falls to the Bears in Round 2? This is actually, before this all wend down, the guy I wanted the Bears to grab at 20. If he falls enough b/c of these issues it might bea hit to his pride, and I definately think that a year or 2 under guys like Brian, Tillman, Briggs and Peppers would force him to keep his nose clean.
