Zero chance the Ravens don't take him at 32 to replace Ray if he gets there (which he won't).

damn. He's such a good MLB, I just cannot see the Bears taking that chance w/those character issues at 20.

That's how I see it. With the history of failures in the draft by Jerry Angelo (especially in the 1st rounds over the years), and with Angelo's failure to fix the oline, and with Emery's failure to even take a swing at fixing the OL his first year here - can you imagine the hate that will come down on Emery if he blows this 1st round pick on a guy who self destructs due to character issues that he CLEARLY knows about ahead of time?

    The fallout will be epic.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Emery took a chance on Marshall whose track record of misbehavior may have been slightly different but probably not any more problematic than Ogletree's. Plus Marshall seemed to have a much worse attitude problem in his past plus a significant personality disorder to overcome.

That was a hell of a shrewd trade so I no longer put anything past him. They did their homework on Marshall very well and we ended up with one hell of a football player on the cheap. Before his latest problem Ogletree would probably have been a top ten or at least a top fifteen pick.

Right now OG seems like a better way to go but Cooper may shoot up the boards as a result of his Combine workouts and if it came down to Ogletree and Warmack at #20 the LB may come out ahead. From what I read I don't think the kid is a bad seed I think he's just careless with his personal life. That can actually be changed pretty easily. A lot of us have done that ourselves.

I agree with all of that, but there is an ugly history here with the OL issues (here's the other shoe falling), he'd better hope he gets it right. He's following a failed GM who repeatedly failed with that 1st round pick in recent years. Fans were pretty angry that we didn't fix the OL and it hurt our season last year. The Marshal thing was a FA chase that fans could rationalize as a great move - since it worked out. Emery isn't stupid. He knows if he looks like Jerry Angelo-II and blows our 1st round pick on a guy who washes out due to character issues, after a 24 month spree of RECENT issues with theft, drugs and a DUI......and he fails to grab a OL guy - again - I just think the pitchforks and angry mob comes out for Emery, just like they hated JA.

And I would be in that mob myself.

Emery is smart. Surely he's smart enough to not roll the 1st round dice on this guy. Emery would be betting the farm, and he doesn't have to do that. Not this year.

Soul no doubt he took that chance w/Marshal; but Marshal is much older, much more responsible(now) and saw his chances of playing in the NFL dwindling b/c of his off the field issues....he also got to come to the team w/HIS QB. None of that exists w/Ogletree. Not to mention much of Marshal's problems are a medical condition and he's accepted and has learned how to handle it.

We don't know what Ogletree's issues are other then flat out ignorance; which is not a flaw I want for the MLB position. He might well be able to be straightened out b/c of the likes of Urlacher/Briggs/Peppers but it's still a huge question mark....He's still my favorite option for MLB, I just dont see them grabbing him.

I was just thinking about Marshall when it comes to drafting Ogletree. I'm sure the Bears will look at the guy, to see if playing on the big stage/money/good team will change him. I mean, if Marshall can get arrested 15 times (even if they were "wrong place wrong time", what the hell are you doing getting arrested that much?) and turn himself around here, then this guy could too.

again primary difference between Marshal and Ogletree: Age(BM is farther along in his maturity), Illness(BM has a mental issue that he is now taking serious), and chances(BM was nearing his last chance of playing, at least for good teams, and this might well of been his last stop).

There is a world of differences in the two; and I'm sure the Bears were apprehensive about getting BM. AO is going to be in his 20's, and if he fails here he'll have plenty of other teams looking to "fix" him, and so far there is nothing saying this has anything to do beyond being a dumbass.

This year, I look at our #1 draft choice as being absolutely precious. More precious than pure gold. With that in mind, we don't have to pull a "Jerry Angelo" and do something risky here. We will have GREAT options to spend that #1 pick on. It's not like we HAVE to do something risky/stupid here with our first round pick.

Emery is too smart to squander our #1 pick on a guy with criminal issues, drug issues & a recent DUI.

He will carefully think this through and get a guy who has a lot of talent - but also not a known risk regarding off the field problems with alcohol, drugs and a criminal arrest, having stolen from a fellow athlete at his school.

    Folks,

Emery isn't stupid. He knows he has to fix that O-Line. I do expect him to take an OG/OC in the first round.

Regarding Ogletree I think he will either go to Baltimore or Green Bay.
