For the glaring holes on offense, and the depth at o-line this draft, it'd be worth it. With talk of the Chiefs trading for Noles from Philadelphia, the possibility that they draft a LT in the first is significantly higher, opening the opportunity to take care of the other spots on the line with these picks. While the pre-combine reports may make one pause whenever thinking about this deal, it shouldn't be a surprise that multiple players at each spot take a fall, and the Bears could end up with a few solid players for the TE spot and interior line. It goes to point out that many (myself included) have complained about not there not being enough done to fix the roster, well this is one of those opportunities. Eifert would probably be available at 31, or if we got a Dustin Keller, we could draft a OG or OC. Point being, this actually improves the options the Bears have in FA and the draft, save spending excessive money on a player.

Hey guys, it's all good. This whole thread is nothing but speculation and each side has pretty good points. No sense in getting after each other. Me,...I do this trade, but Soul makes a valid point about the drop of not just the first round pick, but also the second rounder. I see solid logic in each opinion.

Agreed 4th, it's all speculation, all chatter, all for fun. None of us are Scouts/in draft rooms for a reason.
Me If you can get a top 5 C and a top 10 LG, AND pick up two extra 3rds in the process, which helps create depth over all I see no problem with it(and historically you can). Again C's/G's go in the mid to late rounds for a reason. Now if there was a top LT that fell to us; or the right MLB fell to us, wouldn't trade back for anything. But if all we are looking for is a G or a C at 20, then you trade back b/c those top guys are there to be had in the late 1st-4th rounds(top centers even later). And traditionally the best C's and G's in the NFL were drafted in the mid to late rounds.
Again this also depends on how FA goes. We lose Bu and Melton, but sign a LT, LG and TE; then you cannot trade down b/c you need to get that MLB shored up, and the top MLB's are not found in the 2nd->later rounds.

Only way I see the 49ers doing this is if there is someone they'd want to grab by moving up. Is there anyone they'd want? Do they have a need that would make it worthwhile?

KD, I think the point is, they don't have a need for 14 new guys on their team; that is a ton of picks. So why not have the chance to grab 10 w/the first 2 being higher quality then you currently have a chance to get? Meanwhile the Bears, who do have a need for more picks can go backwards some and still grab needs(LG/C are not normally guys needed to be grabbed w/a top 20 or early 2nd pick) and then get a 2 thirds to build depth.
It's a good choise, unless they plan on taking a MLB /the 20th pick b/c that is a position that normally doesn't perform well if taken after the 1st.

I was saying earlier depending on what the revamped scouting dept. says I don't think it would bad. My only misgiving is we aren't the only game in town. Surely we would be competing for the Niners picks with other teams in a similar boat thereby having to sweeten the pot further or some type of bidding war.

I could actually see a team like the niners packaging and repackaging to get down to about 7 picks and moving up multiple times in various rounds to do so. This is not a team in desperate need of depth or talent; they able to pick and chose their goals and who they are aiming for. The Bears could end up just being the perfect partner, or might end up being the absolute worst in regards to what the 49rs are looking for.
It will be a fun day to see not just what the Bears do, but also what the 9rs do w/all those picks.

The only thing that would cause me pause (again, this is all speculation, and I basically took what I read somewhere else and managed another 3rd out of it, lol) is that the Jets really want rid of Derrell Revis, and that might help both teams out. Then again, they really need another WR, so here's hoping the guy they want is at 20 and then again at 48. I had no clue tho, that the team trading up would have to give up the most points. With only a 28 pt difference, maybe they can throw in an autographed Jerry Rice jersey to balance it out.

Yea, Ric is right KD. I've seen and heard this speculation about the volume of draft picks from various sports news outlets, so the word must be getting out. I had no idea they had so many picks. Few teams go into a draft with that many picks with the intention of using them all. It's just too much roster turnover. Those picks are almost always used to trade up in the various rounds. Regardless of who their trading partners will be, we can all expect the 9ers to be very active on draft day.
