There's absolutely no reason to think the coaches are gonna connect the dots for him, and he's suddenly going to "get it". While that is a possibility, the odds are overwhelmingly against such a thing to happen, so there should be very little stock either way on this one.
It can't be hard to win the LT spot when you fight against Webb? The only way Webb would a battle for a starting LT over another would be to posion one of his taco's.

I seem to remember some of the media (Sun Times in particular) getting upset when the Bears traded their first rounder in 2003 to take Grossman and Haynes (which wasn't a steal, but didn't turn out disasterous, either). They had hyped up Dewayne Robertson as the love child of Warren Sapp buttfucking Deacon Jones. He was the dominant force who would single-handedly lead the defense back to glory. The Bears were making a historic mistake passing him up, etc. Robertson ended up being a decent player for about three years, but hardly what we were told to believe he would be.

Problem w/Sure things is that they have to not buy into the sure thing themselves. If they do they don't work to get better, and then end up getting smoked. NFL is not about talent(for the most part) if you got drafted chances are you have enough talent, the problem is work ethic and a nature to want to get better; the minute a young guy gets complacent is the minute they bust out. It also is about coaching and scheme, if a player gets put into a system that doesn't benefit them they will probably struggle.
Vise versa goes for guys w/not enough talent, they aren't fast enough or strong enough or smart enough. If the player really is willing to work and get bigger stronger faster they will succeed; given the right coaching/scheme.

Sure why not. What do we have to lose. Give him the Vet's minimum.
