The garbage TE will most likely be gone and although it's not all the likely unless he can kick up his return skills a notch Weems may be released as well but probably not until after camp.

Bush wasn't a bad signing they just need to use him more and better than Tice did. The Forte situation was up in the air when Emery signed him and besides that he's very good at doing the things that Forte is very poor at.

As far as tackles go we have Webb, Carimi and I am guessing we will resign Scott. It will be interesting to see who plays where and how the new O line coach works with them. My hope is after this year we won't have to talk about the O line for a long time to come.
In the article I posted above Emery includes Scott as one of our own UFAs he'd like to have back.

Webb did improve last year and now we now by the rankings of their 2013 seasons that Bushrod is very little more than what Webb is at this point in time and Webb has an advantage or two. One he's younger and two he hasn't had Kromer to coach him so there may be more upside to him than may think.

Carimi is also very young. We know what he's is capable of and we also know that he didn't even come close to that last year. I'm not expecting to see a repeat of that and if we do re-sign Scott we'll have a decent vet backup for both. Now add guys like Brandon, Brown and quite possibly a draftee into the mix and OT isn't a huge problem as far as prospects are concerned. OG is.

I agree. I'm also excited about the running game if they fix the interior of the oline. If they do, then Forte/Bush will be incredible. The oline wasn't really doing much for either back last season. IF we actually get an OL that can open up holes, especially between the tackles, then we will be a MUCH more powerful team running AND passing. Even Forte will be able to exploit openings between the tackles. And if Forte isn't just another max protect guy this season, then we'll see him doing serious damage as a receiving RB too.

Our 1 dimensional offense will now be multi-dimensional, and pure hell for a defense. Instead of a defense licking its chops about destroying Cutler, they'll actually have to FEAR our ATTACKING offense.

But for all of this to happen, the interior oline needs upgraded significantly. Even Louis probably won't be much help in the beginning of the season (and maybe well into the season).

    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Emery hopes to bring back OT Scott

    February, 22, 2013 Feb 22

    By Michael C. Wright | ESPNChicago.com

INDIANAPOLIS -- Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery usually avoids discussing contract situations, but indicated at the NFL combine the team hopes to bring back veteran offensive tackle Jonathan Scott.

"Looking at Jonathan, he added positively to our group. He helped us win games," Emery said. "At some point, we'll sit with his agents and see if we can't move forward."

Scott joined the team a day after its 2012 season-opening victory over the Indianapolis Colts, and eventually started in seven games of 12 games played for the Bears.

Interestingly, the Bears wanted to start Scott sooner than his Nov. 11 debut in the starting lineup against the Houston Texans because of the struggles at right tackle of Gabe Carimi, who held the position through the first 10 games. Lingering knee issues held up Scott's ascension into the starting lineup initially, as well as the time required in acclimating to the team's offensive system.

A six-year veteran, Scott made most of his starts at right tackle on an offensive line that surrendered 44 sacks last season. In 342 snaps, Scott was flagged for a penalty only once, gave up one sack, five quarterback hits and five pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

It's doubtful the Bears view Scott as a starter in 2013, but it appears the club would like to bring back the veteran to play the swing tackle role. Scott has started in 35 of his 70 career games.

I find it odd that they are silent on BU/Melton but are willing to speak openly about wanting to resign Scott.

Looks like one guy they want to resign is Scott, I think I mentioned he might well be the starting RT for the Bears as he solidified that role. Also according to this article they wanted to do it far sooner but he was hampered by an injury. I'll again state that if Scott is our RT, I could well see the OL looking similar to last year: LT Webb/FA or Draft, LG Carimi/Brown, C E Williams/draft(draftpick probably starts from the sounds of it), RG Louis/draft pick or FA, RT Scott/Carimi or FA

The limitation of FA to fix issues; and simulatneous limitation of draft picks. Since the primary issues(according to this board) are LG/C and you can get a top 5 in both in the 2nd and 3rd, why not trade down and get additional picks to help solidfy what FA cannot give them the Bears

Forget it. As usual you're way over estimating what's there as far as starting caliber players and I'm done debating it. It's a dumb idea period but y'all just go ahead and play your mock draft games however you like. I'm not playing.

And FWIW I already posted an interview with Emery in which he says he'd like to bring Scott back and if so that would tend to relieve at least some pressure to draft an OT early so if he's successful that may move LB up a notch as a 2nd round target.

hmm I remember you telling me we had to forget about scott b/c he wouldn't be back...per usual you are over estimating your own theories while minimalizing others.

Per usual you ignore history and fact. The majority of the current top C's and LG's playing in the NFL were not drafted in the 1st round, or 2nd; ecspecially at the C position. And the G's that were, were normally late 1st at best...but I know that doens't fit the story you want portrayed so you'll ignore fact per usual.

Walter has only the top 3 or 4 LG's going in the 1st or 2nd, and only the top 2 C's going that high. So unless your "smart theory" says that only the top 4 LG's in all of college can start in the NFL, and only the top 2 C's can also then I'll resend my "stupid" theory". But good luck proving that.

You're done debating b/c you have not valid points. And besides, none of us are scouts, none of us work in the NFL, so it's all pointless banter meant for fun, some(you) just think a little to highly of themselves.

Ric as usual your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired. Try a little practice such as actually reading what I wrote about Scott over and over again until you get it. You know you make broader assumptions about most every thing you post on than anyone else around here. I didn't say Scott wouldn't be back I said, "Not to count him in until he is". So far he's not and Emery's interest in bringing him back doesn't make it a done deal as much as you suppose it does. Ya' see there's another one of your many assumptions. Why don't you just wait and see if it happens huh?

And who the fuck do you think posted Emery's comments about that before you even did. I'm certainly not trying to hide anything from anybody whether it fits my story or not. It's a fact, it's news, it's worth printing and frankly it would be nice is we could bring him back. But you'll excuse me if I don't list him on my imaginary depth chart like you do yours until he's actually signed a contract. Unless he does that and until he does that he doesn't count in my book and "THAT IS WHAT I WROTE". Now you're even imagining what I said.

My points are valid and pretty simple and more than a few here seem to agree with them. You don't pass up 5 star players who are first day starters and have the potential to become All Pros just to pick a lesser player and a couple of mid round picks. That's what Angelo used to do and now he's gone because of those mistakes. But here you sit up to your big old Texas ass in worthless stats all stubborn and hardheaded as usual trying to prove that any OG we draft later on will be just as good a player for us as Warmack or Cooper. They won't be and not one draftnik or draft guru will support that position. So you're fucked.

I stopped debating it because it makes no sense to keep doing it. You posted you're shit and I posted mine and we don't agree. You think that it's just as easy to pick up players of that caliber later in this draft and I don't. So that's it. You can go right on ahead feeling that your stats proved something if you like but they don't convince me so let it lie and stop pushing the issue. You could chart those motherfuckers all the way back to the '30s as far as I'm concerned. It's not gonna change my mind. If we trade out of that pick at #20 I think it's a poor move period and I don't think Emery is that dumb.

If parting with alot of familiar names ( and the dollars they command ) over the next couple years = an emerging SB caliber TEAM in 3 years then I'll take it . Even if it means having .500 teams and not making the playoffs for a couple more years .

Rather be a GREAT (rebuilt ) team in 3yrs with a bona-fide chance at winning the SB , than a mediocre "playoff " team that gets bounced early . It's a trade-off I'm willing to accept .... but I know there will be people calling for Emery & Trestman's heads at the end of this season if the Bears aren't in the playoffs .
I Love Lou " Dr. Slushmouth" Holtz .
