Again, look at the top 10 G's and C's in the NFL over the last few years; and the vast majority were not taken in the fist 2 rounds. So in one of the deeper OL drafts I'm to believe that this is the year you cannot get impact outside the top 3 at these positions?
Again I'm all for solidifing this OL w/impact talent, I'm just not sure that the line of demarkation of Impact is top 3.
No more or less relevant than Manti Te'o being looked at. This is just a small step in the Bears doing their due diligence.
It looks like a weak LB class to me.
It looks like a GREAT year for interior oline guys who can start for us day-1. This draft is loaded with talent through round 4 IMHO.
That's why I hope we double-down with 2 OL picks out of the first 4 rounds this year.
If the Bears think Urlacher (100% healthy Urlacher & not like he was last season) can play at a high level for another season - then we probably should pass on any first round LB.
Maybe grab a project in round 2 or 4 that has the physical attributes to be a starter in a year. But don't reach for a LB in desperation.

INDIANAPOLIS -- It's been said that any play in which an offensive lineman has to run 40 yards in a straight line in probably a bad idea, but that doesn't stop the NFL's evaluators from studying just how well the big men run the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine. This year, those NFL guys got a real treat, as Arkansas-Pine Bluff tackle Terron Armstead set a recent combine record with an unofficial 4.65 40-yard dash. His official time, announced later, was 4.71, but this still exceeded the previous mark since 2006 of 4.84, set by Allen Barbre in 2007.
Amstead just beat out Oklahoma's Lane Johnson, who ran an official 4.72, and whose stock has been rising steadily since he impressed everybody at the Senior Bowl. While Armstead is NFL Draft Scout's 10th-rated offensive tackle, Johnson is third behind Texas A&Ms Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher of Central Michigan. Fisher ran a 5.05 40 and Joeckel's was even higher, but don't expect that to affect their draft stock. More than with other positions, NFL teams will go back to the tape with offensive linemen for the real story.
Armstead does have an interesting story, though. The 6-foot-5, 306-pound small-school star, who played well enough at the East-West Shrine Game to perk up further interest, and earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl as an injury replacement.
"I just want to show them my athleticism, speed, quickness, be smooth, be fluid," Armstead said this week at the combine. "I have some pretty good technique, but I know I need some work on every aspect of my game."
Teams will want to know that he can block at the next level, coming out of the FCS as he is, but Armstead certainly got off to a good start-- literally.

I was meaning that the Bears meeting with Fluker is as important as them meeting with Te'o. The Bears are going to interview EVERY candidate that could fall to them at 20, because this is part of the process to get a feel for each prospect. No Bears fan is privy to the inside info, so for all we know, they could like both guys, neither or one of the two.Quote:

Garza has not once in his entire career been an impact OL. He's been a stable OG, a dependable vet and a solid-but-not-even-close-to-spectacular OG, but he has never once been an impact player that makes everyone around him better by dominating. He has never dominated at OG, not outside the tackles and definitely not inside. He is th esingle most overrated Bears OL of the decade simply due to the fact that he's been healthy and mediocre for a long time while everyone else is injured, old or busting. He's never been a road grader in the run game, and his pass blocking has just been solid. Mediocre.Quote:
