In the unlikely event the options we're to trade down or draft this guy I'd trade down.

I have to say that I tend to agree w/ Kronik on the issue of Ogletree's lasting off field problems. They aren't so big they can't be overcome, if they haven't already.

I will tell you that having been on UGA campus/around Athens many times, there are no cabs to speak of, and the layout of town is such that walking a few miles might take you far longer than in other towns (lots of steep hills). Still, that's no excuse for DUI. Heck, sleep in your car with your keys in your pocket if you have to.

What is interesting is that this board is so very focused on Ogletree (really moreso than any other player other than Te'o by far). Heck, the thread is about a missing bike helmet that was left unlocked and unattended outside of a 50,000 square foot building on a college campus. Cast aside the reality of "that helmet was probably not going to be in the same place when the dude came back to his bike".

The reality of this thread is that you are so intrigued by Ogletree that you can't/haven't actually written him off, despite what you have said. Dude is going to make an impact on some NFL team, and everyone knows it.

Yeah, the thread has gotten a little out of hand with me and Soulman going at it (no homo). I wasnt suggesting that he cant overcome his issues or that we shouldnt get him, i merely disagreed that his issues arent worth at least discussing and debating, which is what we are doing now anyway.

On the Te'o front, looks like he underwhelmed during the Combine so far, combined with his lackluster performance against Bama pretty much means we shouldnt go after him unless he drops to the 2nd round and we get a solid OL in the first. Vontaze Burfict is another example of a guy projected as 1st round, but off field issues combined with poor season at ASU lead to him going undrafted, and he ended up leading the Bengals in tackles this year, so who knows?
    I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

lol, theres like 2 different threads (this being one of em) where me and Soul have been debating this very topic. Just hit CTRL+F and type DUI in the box and see how many times it pops up in this thread alone

    LOL.....

so a serious question for everyone.

At what point do you let off the field issues keep you from picking a player?

It depends on the round. First round, think long and hard before you draft a guy with criminal, drug & DUI issues. As the rounds go on, then it's not as devastating if the player turns out to be a bust.

But the Bears #1 pick is a "once in a year" thing that you can't afford to miss on. If you get a solid starter, but who is not going to be a pro bowler - that's OK in my book. Just don't risk getting a total bust. Players with off field problems can end up being busts. You get NOTHING for them. If you get enough busts over the years, you end up with a mediocre team that is 3rd place in the NFC-N and not making playoff appearances. Like us.
    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I agree, it also depends on the position. Is this a position where they will be demanded to make good judgements on the field all the time,QB/MLB/DB, then I have to pass until much deeper in the draft then lets say a WR/DE/RB. I still wouldn't likely take them in the mid 1st or earlier...it also depends on if I have a vet team or a young team. Young team I might pass altogether, a vet team w/a lot of probowlers it becomes less important.
