Ogletree's arrest was for stealing a $35 motor scooter helmet.
Failed drug test. DUI just before the NFL Combine. And his arrest and booking was for stealing a motor scooter helmet from another University athlete (a rack and field athlete's motor scooter helmets).
I guess the players at Halas Hall can all be sure to lock their stuff up.
LINK to the article Richt suspends Ogletree after arrestOne day before what was to have been his college-football debut, Georgia freshman safety Alec Ogletree was arrested on a misdemeanor theft-by-taking charge and suspended from at least the Bulldogs’ opening game.
Ogletree, a highly touted recruit from Newnan, was charged by UGA Police in connection with the mid-June theft of a motor-scooter helmet, valued at $35, outside a campus building.
Coach Mark Richt, who earlier this week said Ogletree would be one of the few freshmen to play in Saturday’s season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, announced the suspension Friday afternoon. About an hour earlier, Ogletree turned himself in to the Clarke County Jail on an arrest warrant issued the day before.
“Certainly it’s an unfortunate sequence of events,” Richt said in a statement. “I’m disappointed in the situation and will continue to gather information as the case is processed through the proper legal channels.
“In the meantime, Alec is still responsible for a poor decision and will serve a minimum one-game suspension as a result.”
Ogletree was booked into the jail at 2:07 p.m. Friday and released on $1,500 bond at 4:51 p.m.
UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said the warrant issued for Ogletree on Thursday stemmed from a June 15 incident outside the Rankin Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center. A helmet was taken from a parked scooter, where it had been left “unsecured,” between 4 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., according to the police incident report.
The helmet belonged to Petr Novotny, a member of UGA’s track and field team, according to the report.
Williamson said police received information this week that Ogletree had the distinctive helmet, which the incident report describes as “red in color with gray skulls on each side linked by a chain around the back.” The helmet was in Ogletree’s possession when he was interviewed by an investigator Thursday morning, Williamson said. The warrant was issued later in the day.
Ogletree is the ninth Georgia football player to be arrested this year.
Three were dismissed from the team; one decided to transfer; and three –- tailback Washaun Ealey, wide receiver Tavarres King and Ogletree –- are suspended from at least Saturday’s game.
Ealey was charged with hit-and-run of a parked vehicle and driving with a suspended license, while King was charged with underage possession of alcohol.

Well like I was saying, not exactly grand theft auto or armed robbery. Something a not too bright 18 year old did because it looked cool and maybe where he came from if something wasn't tied down it was an invitation to be taken. I'm not saying that made it right but at least he had the common sense to turn himself in on the warrant and avoid becoming a "fugitive from justice". I think that's the term they use here even when they issue a warrant you're not aware of.
Seems those Georgia boys had a lot of problems staying right with the law a few years back. I can't ding Ogletree too hard for that. It's a character issue yeah but about as serious as shoplifting and it happened three years ago and hasn't been repeated. Pretty soon he can buy 100 helmets like that.
So what about the failed drug test? PED's, THC, or something more serious?
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

This guy obviously has pretty horrible decision making skills but 9 players arrested? You have to question the program and the discipline, respect and overall control of the team the UGA coaches have down there. Maybe if we took him a new scenery and new atmosphere would do him good (bmarah)

I thought it was a bit interesting that this was just before he would get to play in his first big game at the college level. And ironically, his DUI was just before his big opportunity to participate in the NFL Combine. I'm probably reading too much into this, but I couldn't help but think of how incredibly stupid it was in each situation.
Great. We have the choice between the LB with the imaginary girl, or the guy who steals other athlete's stuff. I guess the guys COULD find Te'o a real girl.......and they could just be sure to lock their stuff up around Ogletree (or have Peppers break his arms if he was found stealing from the guys).

Of course not, youre just making excuses for him because he happens to be athletically gifted.

Some may see this guy as a thief. I see him as valuing his own safety above all else.

Well then let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
But unless you're Jesus Christ or the Virgin Mary you may as well sit down and stop interpreting my opinions as if they were your own. However if you are one of the aforementioned and you got a rock in your pocket well then take your best shot.

Or if i was a SAINT, could i throw stones then? Perhaps if the Saints had thrown a few stones, they wouldnt have been in that lil bounty scandal thing.
My point is, i grow tired of these College athletes getting into trouble and still getting a chance to make millions of dollars. But even more tired of everyone making excuses for them like its no big deal. Sure, one time could be a mistake, but this kid has 3 incidents already...theft, positive drug test and now a DUI.
And i wasnt "interpreting" anything, i was making an observation based on the post you made: you were making excuses for his actions:
