His 10-yard split was a solid 1.62, but Mayock said it perfectly, he gets up to his top speed very quickly, he just doesn't have the second sideline gear. He's quick to jump up and plays very well between the tackles. His diagnosis of plays and field sense make up for some of that long speed because his jumps are always quick and will give him a step on a most of these kids running 4.6. Not every MLB is going to run Lewis, Urls and Willis (or Trotter, or Fletcher, or Bowman, or Vilma or Brooking)times, but it certainly helps to prove the need for long speed in the middle when the best on the past decade all were quick AND fast. This all isn't a big surprise, though, no one expected him to run sub 4.7, he's just a football player. Zach Thomas and James Farrior made careers out being the quickest to diagnose even if they lacked sideline speed.

Burfict didn't crack 5.0 and he could have a DROY trophy on his mantle if not for Kuechly.

Yeah, Burfict is that one exception that people hope these gambles turn into...much like Te'o he was originally predicted to be a 1st rounder, but a sub-par final season, off field issues and poor combine lead to him going undrafted, and turned into a steal for Cincy. But, just because that happened to him, doesnt mean it will for Te'o, or maybe it will...impossible to say at this point. Should make the draft interesting, in any case.
    I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

The two don't compare at all other than perceived athleticism. Te'o had an exceptional final season outside of one game, was nothing but a hard working, high-character guy and extremely coachable leader all throughout his college career. Burfict was lazy, uncontrollable and low-character guy who blamed coaching for his problems and his own coaches didn't care for him.

I don't think it's going to be forgotten. Not in this day'n age. He's going to be reminded of it every single Sunday afternoon (or night, or Thursday or Saturday... especially Monday nights). Every asshat at any away game is going to bring a placard, poster, blow up doll...

Play on the field won't erase this.

I'm less impressed as the days go on...

    He'll be AJ Hawk 2.0

Stay away or you'll be paying out the ass for an average LB with a low ceiling.

My friend put it best to me "I prefer my Chicago linebackers of the Alpha Male variety." I couldn't agree more... I want Lambo crashing, socialite banging, intense mawfuggas... Not some giggling tool who makes up girlfriends then tries to conivnce the world that he's not a liar (or gay?), he's just really stupid. What a clown.

He could go on to be the next Brian Urlacher or Ray Lewis... would I then wish he was a Bear? Sure. Would I second guess the decision not to draft him? Never.

    John Clayton's take on it:

    LINK

    Here's what we learned Monday:

    [+] Enlarge

Brian Spurlock/USA TODAY SportsManti Te'o could slip out of the first round because of his slow 40 time at the combine.

A slow 40-yard dash time will top any "catfishing" in deflating the value of a player. Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o came out of Saturday's interview session with the national media and 20 team interviews at the combine with the impression that his fake girlfriend incident didn't drop his first-round grade. Te'o, his agents and those who prepared him for the interviews had to feel good.

But Monday deflated the entire group.

Te'o ran a 4.82 40 and could have possibly dropped out of the first round.

Teams need fast linebackers who can drop into coverage and chase down tight ends or fast running backs. Unless Te'o improves that 4.82, he might get some second-round grades. This doesn't mean he can't be an every-down player. Some might compare him to St. Louis Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis.

In his first season, Laurinaitis established himself as an every-down linebacker, but he wasn't drafted until the second round. He ran a 4.82 and went 35th. The good news for Te'o is that he has time to improve his 40. Still, you have to feel for him. The embarrassment of the "catfishing" girlfriend story, a bad game against Alabama and now a bad 40 time have made his past several months rough.

We should not forget that almost all of the ILBs had bad times. Minter had almost the same time, most others too.

The good news, one of the MLBs will be available at #50.

Te'o is as good as said. Te'o offers leadership and character to the team. That's something Emery will look at too
