Thats exactly what I heard from the local sports guys, they like Webb and Brown, and Louis.
So if they went with those 3 at LT, LG, RG would they possibly sign the highest rated FA center (Velasco) and draft Fluker for RT?

Ya it's soundling like Carimi is going to be inside the line, or outside of HH scalping tickets.
not really sure what the does for FA or the draft though.
I can't complain about any of this, if true, including the "insider leaks" that the new coaching staff thinks pretty highly of Webb for this year.
I have faith in Carimi to rebound like Soul and JABF do too but he will definitely have to earn it and get back into form. His career and the status of his next contract (wherever) are hanging in the balance. He has to know that another substandard season will hang the BUST LABEL all over him and he can kiss a big deal goodbye.
For both of the above reasons I am resigned to Webb being the LT and Carimi/Scott competing for RT/swing.
I also see Garza pretty much the same way. I don't know why anyone here thinks he's a 16 game starter next year. I'd be happy to keep him around for one more year as a vet/experienced backup who can play C or G in a pinch. We may need him to do just that if LL isn't fully ready by September.
We really need to draft LG and C too if possible.
I don't think this is totally out of the question although judging Carimi's potential based on last years performance is pretty short sighted. I'm gonna give them more credit than to think they'd be that hasty with a former #1 pick who was the top OT in college the year he was drafted.
As for earning his roster spot I think every player on the team should be required to do that so Glazer reporting that means little or nothing to me. Given the fact that Carimi's salary is only $1 mil and change and that it would cost them almost that much to release him my guess is that he'll get a chance to bounce back this year and then if he doesn't he'll be gone in 2014.
Velasco may be a nice find in FA if we can get him and I think Brown has potential although at what position I'm not sure. He's got some ability to play LT or LG. I'd still be more in favor of drafting a LG is Warmack or Cooper fall to #20 but that may not happen. I guess we could consider Fluker a fall back prospect but I'm hoping we get luckier than that.
I figure that with Lovie gone, no player will get a free pass with the new coaching staff. That was Lovie Smith stuff. If Lovie liked you, you were set. Just show up at "Camp Lovie" and enjoy the country club treatment at a powder puff TC. If you were in Lovie's dog house though, you were screwed no matter how good you played.
Emery/Trustman are different than the old Angelo/Smith combo. So yes, Carimi will have to earn a roster spot. The other 52 players won't get Lovie Smith treatment either.
That being said, I agree with Soul, in that it would be surprising to see Carimi anointed a bust this soon. Jay Glazier is just stating the obvious here anyway. Of course Carimi will have to play better. Nobody is disputing that.
I hate this time of the season. It's the same crap type articles from the same deadbeat writers.
Its quite possible that both Warmack and Cooper are both gone leaving Fluker.
Its going to be interesting to see if/how they restructure some of these contracts particulary
Peppers. He's a 16.2 mil cap hit this year, thats just way too much to not restructure.
I believe he's owed 43.5mil in base salaries the next 3 years like 13/14/16.5 with increasing cap hits.
I believe they could save about 7mil this year if they went 3/43 with a 9mil SB and 6mil base this year.
This way, he is motivated to restructure because he gains an additional 2mil this year and the bears gain
an additional 7 mil in cap.
Soul,
-Bushrod's value to me is completely based on his cost being around 5 million dollars an no higher. If he costs more his value decreases because he is average/solid and no more.
If he wants 6 million plus I am passing on him.
-I do not want to give up on Carimi. I am not going to rely on him.
Carimi to me comes into training camp to compete for a spot, but I am not pencilling him in at RT as a starer I think that is too big a risk.
Doing something with Pep's deal is a virtual must if they expect to be able to do much of anything in FA. I can't see any possibility that they won't tag Melton if they can't get a deal done before FA but they've still got a couple of weeks to get it done.
Stuff is gonna start happening pretty quickly now. My guess is that they'll start making some initial offers to the guys they want back and they'll either accept of they'll use that 3 day period before FA begins to see what others may offer them. Between now and then it would probably be helpful if the could get Pep's deal redone and then look at guys like Tillman and Marshall who have $8-$9 mil cap numbers and see if they can work out an extension to cut those numbers in half too.
Between those three we could potentially add around $15 mil or a little more to the cap and even after tagging Melton still have enough to be serious players for anyone we really think we could plug in and get an immediate upgrade from. Without doing that about all we'll be able to do is add some second tier guys for depth.
As far as the draft goes well everybody gets excited when guys pull off their routines better than expected but one thing to remember is that it's the press who are calling all of this out not the scouts and GMs. Lower ranked players playing positions of greater value will always climb just before the draft and no matter how highly rated an OG, OC, or a TE may be those are still positions that aren't often drafted in the top 15 picks.
Reiff was rated as high as a top ten pick last year and DeCastro a top five but once Reiff got pegged as a RT only both he and DeCastro slid into the 20s. I'm still gonna hold out some hope for Cooper until I see him picked. To me he's the guy we should target and I've believed that all along.
Im in for any ideas FA or draft for legit talent to turn this damn oline around. Give me Bushrod in FA or give me that first round draft pick LT... Just dont give me Frank Omyale, Orlando Pace, insert JA bum and Emery last year bum here_____________ as any suggestions. Just want a focused plan to get this oline right
Sounds like Webb just got a drug bust. I guess that ushers in the Bushrod era.
