Dude got a brain, something our current LT doesn't seem to have.
We just need a fairly cheap and competent OT so we can spend the resources to build the middle of the line.
We could even go into the season with Webb, Carimi and Scott as OTs. Sign a vet for vet minimum and see what shit sticks... Need to fix the interior big time and give Cutler more passing options. Need a TE
then we sign another OT...
Ok so if Pep and Peanut restructures, cut Davis and some other fat, plus a extra 3mil in the cap room can Bushrod or any other quality lineman be had? We are already in the top 10-12 cap wise and have Stein manning the cap helm. I can't see why not. Are there any other detractions as to why not?
Why would you want Bushrod? He barely outranked Webb for millions more. No thanks in my book. It's Albert or nothing LT - wise IMO. Before you say "we can't afford him", consider that the cap just went up 3 million, we haven't released anyone yet, and we haven't extended/restructured anyone yet either. If you want a REAL LT, then there's a will to a way. Release Hester, Davis, and Garza or Spaeth. Save 2 million on a cheaper #2 QB. Redo the deals with Tillman, Jennings, and/or Pep. Let Hayes or Hayden walk. It can be done if Emery really wants to make a serious run at him.
The "argument for Jermon Bushrod" is pretty weak IMO considering he's only likely to be $2 million or so cheaper than a real LT upgrade and Albert is looking more and more likely to be let go by KC.
Albert is better, he is also more expensive, 2 million this offseason is a lot, and he is injured. We have had success with injured OTs in the past.
You sure put a lot of stock in the PFF rankings.
PFF still has him as the 6th ranked free agent OT.
Bushrod had a weaker season, like many Saints, but in 2011 he was a top 10 tackle.
There is a reason that the Saints want to keep this guy.
And while he may not be an upgrade over Webb, he is, he is a huge upgrade over Carimi/Scott.
Who in your plan plays RT for the Bears?
I'm saying ANYONE. But if Bushrod fits then so be it. I'm going by Windy's premise that the PFF rankings were skewed and Bushrod had 200 more passing plays therefore ranking higher than Webb head. My point is I keep hearing this down in the dumps "we can't afford this or that" whereas we are in the upper tier with fat to trim. I can't see why we can't garner SOMEONE.
