And Carimi has not shown in 16 starts as much as Webb did and we wanted to run Webb out of town.

The only reason Carimi is getting more time is that he was a 1st round pick.

True but Webb hasn't been slowed by injuries. So this is a make or brake for both either way it's looked at.

In fairness, I think the injury and multiple surgeries factored in a bit here. The guy went down in week-2 of his rookie season. The Bears played him before he was completely healed last year. Basically, he played on one good leg.

I think this is a VERY different situation than Webb. Webb has no excuse. He's been healthy as a horse (and about as smart as a horse).

I'm not anti-Webb. I hope he pans out for us at LT. But what he has, isn't curable. Carimi on the other hand may come back and be healthy for the first time since he hurt his knee.

One other point to consider. Webb was a 7th round "project" that we've pumped 3 years into, as a starter. Carimi was arguably the best OL in the nation, the Outland Trophy winner as THE best offensive lineman in America - and a product of one of the premier OL programs in the country. That tells me that Webb is a long shot Angelo/Tice project to get a LT on the cheap. Carimi on the other hand actually had some skills prior to the injury. A smart kid with all the tools to be a premier LT in the NFL.

My money would be on Carimi right now, rather than Webb, as far as who ultimately makes it in the NFL. This is assuming Carimi can come back from the injury.

    Webb can't grow a brain. His situation isn't fixable. He's a a 335 pound man with a child's maturity.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I have been trying to get my head around how the Bears can draft and use Terron Armstead.

Terron Armstead has a ton of ability but he needs some time and some seasoning before he starts.

What if the Bears do not sign a long term answer at LT, but instead sign a 1-2 year stop gap and draft Armstead?

    Sign: Bryant McKinnie, King Dunlap

Guys you can get for cheap and offer an upgrade over Carimi, Scott.

    Draft: Terron Armstead

    LT: McKinnie, Armstead
    LG: Schwartz [FA], Brown
    C: Garza, 4th round pick
    RG: Louis
    RT: Webb/Carimi

I'd like that. If Kromer thought Armstead was a rock solid prospect, then that would be a solid move IMHO. This would be VERY different than what we tried with Webb, because Armstead looks like he'll be something very special - and soon. We wouldn't have to suffer through 3 years of on the job training like we did with Webb. In fact, I read one scouting report that said he was ready to start at the NFL level.

But I wonder if he'll be around when we draft at #18 in the 2nd round? IF so, then he'd be someone who could anchor our LT position for many years to come. But aren't some teams thinking about him as a TE, since he has freakish speed for a 300 pound player?

Bushrod had a down year last season the year before PFF had him highly ranked and deserving of the Pro Bowl.

That being said Bushrod had average stats in a system that passed a ton and did not offer him a ton of help. The help was rolled to the RT which was manned by Zach Strief and a rookie.

Now imagine Bushrod who was average in a difficult system, in a system that would require a little less and offer him more help.

Webb is more talented that Streif and vice versa they would make each other better because we could vary who was getting help and what we were asking them to do.

Would Bushrod's previous experience w/Kromer be more efficient and/or cheaper than going for Albert?

    Michael C Wright Chat

    Jermon Bushrod (New Orleans)

Where are the nice neighborhoods to live in Chicago? Are they a close commute to Halas Hall?

Doesn't matter. A prominent decision maker in the Saints organization told me the plan was to bring you back "at the right price." That right price is probably more than what the Bears will be able to pay.

Do we know exactly how much $ Bushrod is looking for? $8, $9 (Andre Smith), $10, $11 million (Jake Long) each season?

Here goes that popular rumor, and it is just a rumor, that keeps getting perpetuated that Carimi was never healthy enough to workout fully last offseason and get back the agility that an entire offseason of scar tissue and rest will rob you of. I don't necessarily doubt it, and I do have a problem fathoming that Carimi kickslide and strafe skills were THAT diminished by a kneecap injury -- so a rush in rehab and limited workouts makes a bit of sense. If he bounces back and revamps his kickslide, awesome, if not, I think some people need to get over his height and admit we have a tall power guard on our hands because the boy is the true road grader in the ground game that we simply don't have otherwise.
