    So is speeding.

    Do you ever speed?

JT Thomas got nailed two years ago and it amounted to almost nothing. I'd rate a DUI as being worse than this. If this had happened in Colorado he wouldn't even have gotten pinched but I don't know how Illinois deals with it.

It's pretty much time to just accept that having a small amount of weed for personal use is just not that big a deal. The masses have been smoking the stuff with regularity for over 40 years now and I don't know of one person who ever became a heroin junkie because of it.

Isn't it about time we put "Reefer Madness" away for good?

The cannabis isn't a big deal. But this is a totally different charge than possession of a controlled substance. These are two separate charges and Webb has been charged with both.

In Illinois the possession of a controlled substance is a felony. A controlled substance in Illinois is a drug like heroin, meth, LSD, Cocaine (stuff like these). It's a significantly more serious charge with greater consequences, at least potentially.

It can be a big deal, depending upon what it was, amounts etc. I don't want to jump to any conclusions because obviously we don't know anything as far as details yet. We don't even know how accurate the news story is.

But I can say that this could be a bigger deal than just pot. Goodell may see it that way too. And I'm sure Trestman and Emery are not too pleased right now. We have a LOT of holes to fill already. This thing with Webb just makes it a bit more complicated.

    Bears first statement:

“We are aware of the recent arrest of J’Marcus Webb in Pulaski County, Illinois. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”

Pulaski County Sheriff Randy Kern says Webb was released on bond on Monday.
Webb, 24, is entering his fourth season with the Bears. He has started all 16 games in each of the last two seasons.

Well here's the answer as to how Illinois deals with it. So basically anything up to 10 gms is a $1500 and up to 60 days and any kind of a jail sentence is almost unheard of for a first offense it's more likely he gets a fine, some substance abuse classes, and some community service.

Now what the Bears and the NFL will choose to do about is another matter but like I said it's not gonna go away so if they haven't already they better figure out a way to deal with first offense for any player who commits one like this.

Illinois Penalties for Possession of Marijuana (includes Hashish)

    Amount Classification Prison Term Fine
Up to 2.5 gm Class C Misdemeanor Up to 30 days $1,500
    2.6 - 10.0 gm Class B Misdemeanor Up to 6 months $1,500
    10.1 - 30.0 gm Class A Misdemeanor Less than 1 year $2,500
Class 4 Felony for 2nd and subsequent offenses 1-3 years $25,000
    30.1 - 500.0 gm Class 4 Felony 1-3 years $25,000
Class 3 Felony for 2nd and subsequent offenses 2-5 years $25,000
    500.1 - 2,000.0 gm Class 3 Felony 2-5 years $25,000
    2,000.1 - 5,000.0 gm Class 2 Felony 3-7 years $25,000
More than 5,000 gm Class 1 Felony 4-15 years $25,000
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Do we know that yet? Seems to me that so far it's much ado about nothing other than the usual Webb is being dumb and careless. Let's wait until we have some details.

Chicago Bears news: Bears' J'Marcus Webb reportedly facing drug charges - chicagotribune.com

It is just 2.5 grams of pot.

Again who cares nothing will come of this.

He will speak at some schools and the Bears will welcome him back because he is our best OLmen.

The two biggies in this case so far for Webb are the "possession of controlled substance" and "paraphernalia" charges.

Possession of controlled substance are felony offenses and usually class 1 regards of the quantity or type of drugs (coke, heroin, lsd, etc). Quantity of the substance usually determines the length of jail time. Paraphernalia charges are usually around a class-a misdemeanor and it doesn't matter if its a pipe or paper for weed or a needle for heroin... its all covered under the paraphernalia charge.

This will be Emery and Trestman's first chance at disciplining the roster. It will be interesting to see what happens after this goes to court.

Well let's just wait and see what this so called "controlled substance is". In itself pot is a controlled substance but it's usually separated from narcotic drugs or hallucinogenics so I figure some time later today of tomorrow we'll find out and then we'll know just how much trouble our McDonald's Poster Child is in.

Yeah I'm sure they're not pleased but like I said drug use of all sorts in pretty prevalent in society and has been for a very long time so the fact that shit happens shouldn't be a real shocker. We're just less accustomed to Bears players having run ins with the law than the Bengals fans are that's all.

My own experiences tell me that you can be "charged" with most anything and in all likelihood will be but whether or not those charges stand up or not is another thing. This is just like the debate I had with Jimmors about Ogletree. Let's wait until the courts convict him or he pleads to something before we punish him. Public opinion is often far more punitive than the courts.

Now.....back to our regularly scheduled programming. The draft and FA.
