The local source that broke the initial story said it was pot AND possession of a controlled substance. But the Trib article says pot only. So who knows.

Tribune's story does not include a "possession of a controlled substance" charge...
After being pulled over near mile marker 16.5 at the tip of the state, police found less that 2.5 grams of marijuana, Pilgram said, reading from a police report.
He was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, Pilgram said. Webb, 24, posted $500 and was released on Monday, Pilgram said. Webb has a March 18 court date in Pulaski County, Pilgram said.

They're gonna drink, screw and smoke pot and Webb's only problem was that he got caught. Next time he's in his "ride" he'll keep the cruise on and set to within 5 MPH of the posted speed limit. So he's an idiot but then we already knew that didn't we.

Soul, we're just trying to figure out how much trouble he's in. It does sound like it's just pot. But the OP posted a story saying it was a controlled substance and those ARE two very different situations in Illinois. I'm just trying to figure out how bad this thing is for the team and fans.
At least that's my only worry. Our personnel needs are complicated enough without having to replace Webb too.
I know the drug laws in Illinois, as I am a retired Illinois police officer. I worked over 30 years of law enforcement. Of course that doesn't mean I know anything about this particular incident......I'm just trying to sort it all out myself. As a fan, I just want the oline fixed.

ESPN chicago radio said Pot and controlled substance and paraphinelia. I think we'll know more in a few business days or a week or so. Right now it's all subjecture. But this is not about what you or I think about it; it's what the Mck's and HH think about it; and we'll find that out shortly after we know what really was found.
***UPDATE***
670 is also now stating controlled substance on top of pot, and not 20 min's ago it was just pot.

I don't care that he has pot. The fact that he was DUMB ENOUGH to get caught doesn't really help his case. Is this guy going to all of a sudden going to get the gist of a more complicated system or make a leap to the next step?
Makes it more doubtful if you asked me.

I'm glad you're retired. Too many crazy's out there shooting at cops these days. Become a consultant. It's safer. I never read about consultants getting shot so I became one. Besides I'm allergic to high velocity lead, LOL.
My initial thought was that it was simply a punctuation error. I think the comma after "controlled substance" should have been a semi colon. If it's punctuated that way it becomes "a controlled substance"; cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Both of which are usually referred to as "controlled substances". At least they were here until they made it legal to possess them.

OK. So it is a felony.
I don't think Webb was on the strongest ground before this arrest. My gut feeling is that there's a good chance he's gone now. That's not me saying he should be gone. Just my thinking that he's not in the strongest position to begin with. This probably means the Bears will have to shell out some cash for a free agent. I was so hoping we wouldn't have to do that, considering the many holes we have to fill. If the Bears do feel they have to go FA for a LT now, it also means less money to shore up the team's roster elsewhere.
Damned shame. Makes me sick. Every thing like this diminishes the ceiling for our season a bit more. Not a killer thing at all. But the cumulative effect is there. It sure doesn't help our situation when we already had a horrible oline problem to begin with.
We also, as fans, suffered through 3 brutal years with this kid as he was given every opportunity to be a LT in the NFL. Most teams would never have invested that much time - and pain - into developing a 7th round draft pick. But we did. Now we pretty much have a piece of crap left over for it. He'll be gone.
We're back to square one at LT. Stinks.
