Chicago Bears offensive Tackle J’Marcus Webb was arrested Sunday in Pulaski County on drug charges, but the county’s top attorney has decided not to prosecute.
Webb was stopped for speeding by sheriff’s deputies Sunday evening on Interstate 57. Police discovered cannabis in Webb’s vehicle, and he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, cannabis and paraphernalia.
Pulaski County State’s Attorney Grayson Gile said Webb had 2.5 grams of marijuana in his possession when he was stopped for going 11-miles-per hour over the speed limit.
Since the arrest, Gile has classified the case Nolle prosequill. The term refers to a formal entry on the record by the prosecutor declaring he will not prosecutor further.
The charges are dismissed, but Gile said there would be a resolution: “I think it lends itself to a resolution that will be fair and equitable to all parties involved.”
Webb made a first appearance in Pulaski County Court Monday where he paid $500 cash bond.
The case had been set for a March 18 hearing, but Gile said that hearing won’t be necessary.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Chicago Bears said “We are aware of the recent arrest of J’Marcus Webb in Pulaski County, Illinois. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”

So in the final analysis much ado about nothing and all of hand wringing can stop. Hopefully none of you od'd on your Maalox this AM. He'll get a lecture from the Bears and a missive from Saint Roger and there'll be something to be done somewhere but that's about it. You start terminating guys over stuff like this and half the NFL players will be out on the street.

A fine and probably some community or public service work. Some days it pays to be a wealthy NFL player. It's about time the started resolving shit like this without making a guy out to be a criminal over something so common place as a little pot. It not like he was trying to set up a distribution network like Sam Hurd was.

Maybe the evidence wasn't obtained legally such as by a search made without his permission or it turned out that the pot was actually oregano that fell of his Pizza Hut personal pan pizza. :lol-032:

Usually a prosecutor won't drop charges like this unless there's something "wrong" with the arrest itself. Maybe the pot was not Webbs. Sometimes the driver is tagged with pot in the car, when in fact it was a passengers pot.

Maybe the prosecutor didn't see that this was clearly Webb's pot and "did the right thing" here. Dropped charges.

That's kind of what I figured too. If they can't establish possession they can't get a conviction but usually they'll at least try to press for a plea to a lesser charge. Maybe there was so little that there was no lesser charge.

I gotta kick out of his tweet about heading to Texas to train. In his case I'll bet that means he's tired of Taco Bell and Mickey D's and it time fo' some a his Momma's home cooked soul food.

Soul, are you always such a condescending dick or is it just here on the boards? Based on the original story that came out, there were legit concerns. Yeah, we all get that weed is not necessarily something to be cut from the team over. No one here is stupid.

It's the charge reported about the controlled substance that was in question. Again, a legit concern if the dude was running around with freaking cocaine in his car. If you can't understand that, then you are more of a Webb slurper than I thought.

I'd love to know why the charges we're dropped? If there was a plea deal that would have had to be done in court I think.

There was a passenger who wasn't charged, but maybe they "owned up" to it being theirs. There's also the possibility that the amount was too petty (less than an eighth) to pursue with bigger priorities for our tax dollars and shrinking resources than a fighting a millionaire athlete's lawyer over a little damn weed. So he agrees to enter a diversion program while paying some fines and administrative fees while relinquishing his bond, and we all move on knowing the world is a little bit safer from the devil's plant. :lol-032:

In related news: McDonald's stores in Southern Illinois are hiring workers for double shifts in preparation for Webb's inevitable munchies.
