He moves well on the field, clip 4 is his stoning Margus Hunt at the Senior Bowl, he has long arms and solid power. The real negative on him is level of competition and he answered some of those at the Senior Bowl.

He was ranked as a 2nd round pick by most people going into the combine before his incredible performance. He really gather steam at the East/West game and the Senior Bowl on the field.
He got murdered in 1-on-1s all SB week and Margus Hunt regularly stepped inside on him on game day. There was no stoning. There's barely a five-step drop on that tape, let alone a seven-step drop. That covers up a lot of those late breaks guys like Hunt got on him, that would be timely moves in the NFL. I'm not saying he's not a good prospect, because he is. Everyone knew he was going to blow up the Combine and he has the rare athleticism you want to work with at LT in today's NFL. Problem is, we really don't have time to develop a guy like him with our window shutting on a team that has a D that is very much in win-now mode. We need game one contributors out of those first two picks.

Hunt does not lay a hand on the QB, which shows me he can stay in front of elite athletes. From there we can work on the finer points, but it starts with being able to keep up.

Agreed he needs time and if he was a start right now guy with his athletic ability he would be going top 20 with Lane Johnson.

But the Bears need an OT. Where do you see us getting this OT from?

Unless we want to move up I don't see us picking a clean prospect at the OT position.

Shrine game. Play 3, 4, 7, 8, 12, are all bad sets that get him beat on NFL dropbacks. I stopped watching after that. Don't confuse getting away with short blocks with stoning his man.

Hunt beat him both to the edge and inside cleanly a handful of times. As I've said, you don't see that because they are all three-step hot reads.

I certainly do not force the issue with a development prospect based on positional need.

They are not that bad and the important part is that he still makes the block with a poorish set.

That tells me that if I teach him a better set he will be fine.

Those plays really are not that bad.

But you are correct there is some development required.

Where would you upgrade the OT position from?

There's a lot of leaning and on his heels play that covers up with his elite athleticism in those tape. You get guys with Hunt's skills every week, and a hell of a lot more savvy to work him over on those mistakes in the pros. They are things that get taught in the pros and the fact that he DOES cover up for his mistakes well with athleticism tells me he can get coached up in the pros and develop into a LT. I would very much like him on our squad, as would just about every coach and talent evaluator in the league. I just don't want us to spend one of the two valuable picks we have on the developmental players. If we do, we better damn well be sure he is a guy we can get straight by week one otherwise the thoughts of him being an upgrade are null.

At this point, I really don't know. Any real upgrade from the FA class is going to be prohibitively expensive, and the top three ready-and-proven prospects are looking to be gone by 20. You're not wrong, our OT play needs to get improved upon and maybe a guy like Armstead presents the best chance to do just that. I just don't see him being the immediate impact on the field as a football player that I want out of the first two rounds.

    That is the tough question.

Armstead might be our best option for an OT upgrade as much as that is not ideal.

I am beginning to spin my tires in how we are going to upgrade the OT position as you said the options Re not exceptional.

Yeah it's poor judgement to be running around with pot in your car. If you get stopped they may ask to search the car. Keep you shit at home or if it has to go with you keep it where they can't find it with a cursory search. Probably didn't help is he was driving a big black ghetto cruiser of an SUV either.

But as far as what to do about it the best answer is very little. Guys that age drink, smoke pot and screw as many woman as they can and no amount of lectures on morals is gonna change that. All you can hope is that most of them have the brains and the maturity to control it well enough to not let it interfere with their NFL life. In Webb's case he's short both of those key ingredients.
    Sad but true Soul.
