Glazer ESPN Chicago: The OL
Jay Glazier on ESPN radio Chicago said he thinks that Carimi has to earn a spot in training camp; or he could get cut. He said he didn't get a high grade from the coaching staff. Said he cannot see Garza coming back.
But they really liked Webb and Brown, and Louis.

Sorry I thought this deserved its own thread since it seems to be some real information about the line and where we might go.

I'm really curious to see if Brown is going to be solid. He looked like a guy who needed work, but his raw talent looked pretty good to me.

Wonder how serious this Webb thing is, it's not just Pot, it's some other kind of controlled substance also. This is not a team that tends to be happy w/these arrests. Tank was a talented DT, and was quickly removed when he found himself having issues w/the law. Benson, not as talented, but also found himself shipped off when he got himself a few DUI's.
Kind of like Ogletree, this is a sign of poor judgement, and it will be interesting to see how Emery/Trestman and the Mc's are going to handle this. That could really put a bind on how the team hanldes FA/draft.

It is a bit of a game changer if the Bears staff goes into the offseason looking at the OL as
LT: Webb
LG: Brown
C:
RG: Louis
RT:
Now there are still major questions with Brown and Louis' health so I would not rule out taking an OG.

James Brown may have a future in the league, but his past (as in last season at LG) was turribul. There were little things and moments in there to like and he has some nice skills and definite upside, but counting on him to be anything more than an eight OL would be a giant mistake. We went in last year thinking our interior could hold up and be a young unit on the upswing for us, but it wasn't and still isn't. It's only gotten worse with Louis tearing his ACL and Garza regressing from mediocre to postmortem. Two additions are needed regardless, whether than be a FA or draft pick. I'd love to see us add one of each.

I agree that perhaps he does not start, but it may influence who we go after to fill the spot if they think that he can play.
Maybe we go after an older guy like Brandon Moore [33] who can start for a year or 2 while Brown is developed to take over the position?

Exactly. It's not like we can replace the entire OL roster. Gotta hope some of these guys have value for this year, even if it's solid backup play.

If we can improve upon Garza with a better vet we should do so and if not at the very least we should have some competition for him. He's journeyman type guy and that all he's ever been or will be.
As for LG if either Cooper or Warmack are on the board for crap sake take one of them (preferably Cooper since he may also be able to play OC at some point in time). It's time to stop screwing around with stop gap measures and build that line with good draft picks the way it needs to be done.
If we can count on Louis to return and play at the level he was before his injury then the biggest holes that need filling are in the middle at LG (we don't have one) and at OC (we have a crappy one). We have two young guys at OT who do have some upside and the draft may provide another so let the coaches get those two up to NFL standards and get them what they don't have not more of what they already do.

Well as it turns out it is just a small amount of pot and in the grand scheme things not all that big a deal. Unless we end up drafting Lane Johnson by camp we'll be looking at Webb playing LT again and this will mostly be forgotten. How often does JT Thomas' pot bust come up?
Yeah it's poor judgement to be running around with pot in your car. If you get stopped they may ask to search the car. Keep you shit at home or if it has to go with you keep it where they can't find it with a cursory search. Probably didn't help is he was driving a big black ghetto cruiser of an SUV either.
But as far as what to do about it the best answer is very little. Guys that age drink, smoke pot and screw as many woman as they can and no amount of lectures on morals is gonna change that. All you can hope is that most of them have the brains and the maturity to control it well enough to not let it interfere with their NFL life. In Webb's case he's short both of those key ingredients.
