Yes, it will be a buyers’ market again in the NFL. This is what allowed the Bears to bring back DL Israel Idonije on a modest $2.5 million, one-year contract last season. It will likely put him in a similar position again this year. The Atlanta Falcons cut three big name players in Michael Turner, John Abraham and Dunta Robinson. It’s happening around the league as teams look to get younger and cheaper. That puts veterans that are 30 and over in a tough position. It is why players coming out of their first contract and looking for a second contract – like Bears DT Henry Melton – need to maximize their opportunity. Big pays days in the form of third contracts are rare in the NFL. Earning power is greatly decreased after age 30. Players need to strike young and older players must face reality that they will not have a lot of leverage.

Makes me wonder what kind of ripple effect it will have on trades. Especially with guys who hit that second level contract but feel like they have missed out.

Hopefully the Bears can pick up a couple free agents out of the many cuts we'll be seeing once free agency goes official march 12th.

Biggs is right. It's a buyer's market.

If the Bears spend their money wisely, then they can get some solid talent this way. We have to. There is NO WAY we can fix all of our holes/problems through this year's draft. Can't happen. We'll be lucky if even 2 draftees can start this year. Heck, we only HAVE two picks in the top 3 rounds. Good luck with THAT one.

And our holes, are many.

We have aging players, injured players like Lance Louis who may or may not be solid after serious injury, and an entire OL that sucks. Urlacher is all but ready for an aluminum walker, Pep is ancient, Briggs & Peanut will be 33, we don't have a single TE who can catch a football (none), and think about this one - if B.Marsh gets injured, what is our "Plan B" because the cupboard is pretty bare there right now (no way Bennett & Alshon carry the load by themselves.....and Knox officially bit the dust).

The last regime left the team in a precarious position. It's a "house of cards" IMHO.

If we take an offensive lineman in the first round we have a day one starter. 2th round we might also have a starter there depending on the postions. A TE, or another offensive lineman will be starters aswell.

I hope next years draft will be heavy on defense, because I'd go all in on offense this draft (unless a guy like Te'o falls to us in the 2th) and then next year go all in for defense. 2015 draft will hopefully be able to take BAP. This is what I hope for, and ofcause this includes no bust in the 1th-3th round. Go make it happen Emery and you'll a boss.

Just like we have had with Chris Williams and Gabe Carimi?

The cut I am waiting for is JerMichael Finley who is set to make 9 million for the Packers.

He need a change of scenery and he has a ton of talent. He dropped to many balls last season but I think that was more of a mental issue than anything.

Could anyone else see TE being our big free agent splash? It would be far more economical than an OT

Carimi looked good in the few glimpses we saw in his first year, the injury set him back light years but to call him a bust after playing 17 1/2 games is very premature

Well see this year, for now the jury is out on him

And Cwill was a known reach and risk, was no secret many people didn't think he was nfl LT material

If cooper or Warmack are there, then it's all but a lock for day one starter...and a good one at that

If fluker is there I expect a serviceable starter...although it scares me that he will be more than likely moving positions.

Lets say for the moment that the LT FA thing doesn't work out for fit or price reasons. Windy, could we afford Brandon Myers (TE) and Geoff Schwartz (OG) in FA instead?

The predictability in first round guards who are mostly undervalued is much better than that of OTs, who more often than not get reached on.
