This guy (or any of a couple other TEs) should be a big target for us in free agency. I don't think overhauling the OL in free agency is remotely realistic. Let's remove a need by addressing a position that generally isn't that expensive (relatively) in the free agent market and has a bit of depth too.

@seankjensen: After not being franchised by the Titans, TE Jared Cook should draw plenty of interest, including from the #Bears. Tight end Jared Cook expected to draw interest from Bears - Chicago Sun-Times

The problem with guys like Finley and Cook who believe they're part WR and should be paid accordingly is that the word cheap doesn't attach to them very easily. Your average good TE is making $2-$3 mil per year and these guys want at least two to three times that much. Having WRs like Marshall and Jeffery and a back like Forte tells me we'd be overpaying them based on how much they'd be used. Find me a younger version of Des Clark instead.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

They make closer to 5 million
Greg Olsen (5 years 22.8 million)
Owen Daniels (4 years 22 million)
Heath Miller (6 years 35.5 million)
Zach Miller (5 year 34 million)
Brent Celek (8 years 34 million)
Marcedes Lewis (5 year 35 million)
Those are just a few of the TEs that make 5 million plus.
I was shocked when I looked at the contract numbers.

LOL, a "source". Who? His agent, his entourage, or his Aunt Tillie? Every time I read stuff like that around this time of year I have to chuckle. It's pretty damn simple to look at any teams needs and line up potential FAs with them just like Clayton and his Jake Long projection. I'm not putting you down for posting it Windy just having a laugh at how the rumor mill cranks up right about this time.
I'm sure there could be an interest but as it stands we don't have the cap $$$ to bring back those of our own we'd like to keep around without some moves being made so where would we get the $$$ for guys like Cook or Long? For all we know you could be that source Windy, or it could have been me.
In this case it's not even listed as "a reliable source" or an "inside source" so I'll go with his Aunt Tillie for now. This is one where his agent calls Emery and asks if Cook became available would the Bears have an interest. What's Emery gonna say, no? An interest is a long way from a commitment.
I'd be interested in screwing Jennifer Aniston but I doubt I could put that deal together either.

Yep $5.55 mil per year on average so right in the ball park of 2x to 3x what we've been paying (overpaying actually) and a whole hell of a lot more than we ever paid Des Clark who was one of the best TEs we've had in the past 30 years or so. Like I said, find me another Des Clark and we can make do for now.
Finley and Cook are looking to top these guys.

I agree that they are looking to top these guys, but even if you pay Cook 6 million a season it is cheaper than an average starting OT because Beatty got 7.5.
And Soul have faith I think Annistons market is shrinking.

I really hope we can make something happen and sign this guy. Keep in mind that Aaron Kromer was part of a New Orleans Saints attack that heavily used Jimmy Graham. The Bears really are a logical fit.
C'mon, Phil!
