But isn't it going to be more of Trestman's offense than Kromer's? I'm alright with getting a tight end, but I absolutely don't want Finley (who seems to drop too many balls) and I don't want the Bears to overpay either. I don't see us cutting Spaeth, especially if Emery and the new staff think that the line will still have problems this year (which they should).

I don't think we can afford him. The difference between him to Walker or Keller isn't worth the difference in money
And starting LTs are worth a whole hell of a lot more than TEs too. The Giants got a "hometown discount" and a bargain. Even average LTs get $5-$6 mil per year and I'd put Beatty way above that. I'd give $6 mil for a guy that was all that much better than Webb but for a TE, no.
Top TE's may get $5-$6mil but it's still one of the lowest paid positions in the NFL and there are more guys making between $1-$3 mil than there are making $6 mil. I'm not even vaguely interested in Cook for that kind of money. As long as Cutler has Marshall and a good #2 catching 150 passes a year or more between them our need for a $6 mil TE is pretty low.
Jen's marrying her beau anyway. She's had her chances with me but now it's time to move on. Diane Lane just got a divorce so it's time to reset my sights. LOL
And that is a very good observation Zel. NOLA was Payton's offense not Kromer's and the Bears passing offense is being run by Trestman not Kromer.
Jesus we go through this TE thing every year. It's like just because the guy down the street had a blue "Beemer" we have to have one too. Trestman has already down played the need for a top tier TE in his offense so why anyone thinks we'd pay one more than double what we paid Davis is beyond me.
We wouldn't even pay $3-$4 mil per year to keep Olsen around but we're gonna spend $6 mil or more on a FA like Cook? Nah, I just don't see it. Not this year.
I generally agree with this. Look, a marquee TE isn't critical to the WCO Trestman wants to run. We definitely could use someone to threaten the middle of the field and Davis sucks no doubt, but we don't need to break the bank looking for the next Gronk or Witten in the FA market. I'd rather spend $$ on a solid OL starter so we have insurance in case the draft doesn't break the way we hope it might. We can get by with a cheaper but decent receiving TE (Keller? Fasano?) and develop a draft pick rather than spending $6-7 million on an unproven "potential star" in Cook who expects big coin.
Article by the Sun-times projecting interest in Cook, for the Bears, but not by the Bears.
If Cook is available, and it looks as if he will be.....we NEED him. He's the best available option at the TE position and truly is on the verge of exploding. Eifert would be nice in the draft, in my opinion anyway, but I'd just assume we scoop up Cook and use the 1st round pick Eifert would almost certainly cost us on the best offensive lineman available.
