There goes an OT off of the market and makes the 1st overall pick interesting.

Smart move by KC.
Other than your franchise QB, that LT guy is a cornerstone of your team. If you have a good one - pay him, keep him. He's worth his weight in gold (and that's a lot of gold
).

Not surprised, I've been expecting this move all along. Jake Long is really the only LT left I want, but the cost is hard to justify. Right now, we're looking at a draft day reach,a Tait RT-to-LT conversion or Webb. If Carimi didn't look like total dogshit last year Webb at LT would be more palatable, but he did and it's not. As many have already said, Webb has actually turned himself into a solid starting RT candidate. Last season was a giant leap forward for him, whether people admit it or not, he was plain and simply a much better and more consistent tackle. I'm not convinced either way of his future at LT, but I know I'd be a lot more confident in our line if he was our RT and we had an even average LT.

Well that sucks. Thought they were gonna save the $$ and take Joeckel. Looks like Webb is our LT for '13.

Yeah not unexpected and the only way I'd even think about Long is if he comes one hell of a lot cheaper than he's being advertised to want in the way of a contract. I just don't see it either. Somebody will get desperate enough to gamble and pay his price.
Bushrod just doesn't represent much of an improvement for the $$$ unless Trestman and Kromer are just too uncomfortable with trusting Carimi to bounce back and personally I think we have to take that risk. Carimi is a good football player and I think he'll see this as a personal challenge to bring his game back up again and unless that injury has nailed him for good I think he'll get it done.
Well today's the 4th so roughly another week and we'll see how Emery approaches it. Does he go after Bushrod right away, does he hold off and see what kind of attention Long is getting, or does he decide to sit tight and use the draft or possibly wait out the 2nd tier guys or late releases and see who he can pick up like he did with Scott?
Unless he gets some deals restructured this week it doesn't look to me like he's gonna be able to do much of anything. I wonder what Melton is looking for in the way of a long term deal?
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Soul, it's going to be very interesting to see what Emery does. I think he needs to do something with Tillman & Jennings as far as signing them both to extensions but who knows. For all we know he'll focus on restructuring a few contracts & resigning our own. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.
